Reminding everyone in and around the LOS ANGELES area to get your rides ready and tell your friends to come out and show the museum all the VW community has to offer. A 6-month main exhibit of the custom and vintage VW car culture is within reach. We have one crack at it, lets roll! Very Nice Flyer coming soon.. _________________ Frank Ochoa said; "I still have my convertible bug from high school. If you take the time to visit the FB page of the Cal-Style Newsletter below, you'll understand the reasoning behind the Porsche Alloy. What this group of guys is trying to do is, try to preserve a part of our hobby's history, that started long ago, that so many all over the world still emulate today. The early 80's "Cal-Style" at least the way i see it, has been the one "style" that has stood the test of time in this hobby.
You can take a car built in 1983 in the so called "cal-Style," build the exact car 30 years later in 2013, and you wouldn't know the difference. And when you look at the history, the one overwhelming trend, was the Porsche Alloy Aka Earlies). There is a reason that an UNrestored set of "earlies" sell in the thousands today.
So... to finish up my long answer to your question. It's true it's a NON-VW wheel, but it's significance to our hobby and the "cal-style" is very important.

This event is for all eras and styles! If its Air-Cooled, Bring It...
ps Over the weekend I talked this guy into bringing his. He doesnt like going to v-dub specific shows cause he gets ripped apart for his work. His could end up inside the museum exhibit! You never know?
A couple more we've personally talked too that will be there. As you can see all eras, all styles!

Dubbin since the 80s

Splitdog this first time event is for all genres of Air-Cooled Vdubs! Cal-look, Rat-Rod, Vintage collector, Baja-Off Road, Customs, Patina'd, Cal-Style, Road race, Race cars.........The goal is for the Petersen Museum to have a full main gallery exhibit of the "Peoples Car" covering all eras from pre war, post war, 60's Gasser's, 70's-80's OC California Look, 80's New Wave customs, 80's Cal-Style, Samba's, and historical examples of Kubels, Shwimm's, etc.
So if the air-cooled community comes out in force it will make it that much easier for me to convince the powers at be to do it. _________________ 1955 151 Deluxe L219 Congo Green (Project)

It is to bad that this is early on Saturday because it's conflicting with OCTO and the Toy Show. That is a huge draw but it's over around noon. This would have been perfect if it was later in the day. I'm planning on coming out from Jersey for the Classic and put the Peterson Museum on my list because of the BAJA 1000 show. Unfortunately My number two reason from coming to the classic is the OCTO show [it's a must attend]. Maybe next year you guys could have a 1-5p show, I'm sure you'd double the attendance at least.

jhicken we understand that it is going to happen during the OCTO & The Toy show & thats why we are having it early in the morning so people if they chose can still make OCTO or the Toy Show. This is a Los Angeles based first time event put on by LA Based VW enthusiasts during the Classic weekend so that the Non Type II Vdubbers could have something to do since VW Bugs are not allowed at the Orange County Transport Org. OCTO gathering. We also planned it so that all the Classic attendees that come from all over the world can now visit LA & do the tourist thing like visiting Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Film Studios, Sunset strip, Downtown Los Angeles which are all less than 5 miles from the World Renowned Petersen Automotive Museum and the Miracle Mile area. _________________ 1955 151 Deluxe L219 Congo Green (Project)

I just said it would be nice if the event was later. Both OCTO and the Toy Show are over by 1p. Most folks show up at OCTO at 8am and the Toy Show I believe starts around noon or 1p.
Many of the folks who attend these shows I'm sure would like to head up to the Petersen Museum and your event as well. Although the OCTO event is centered around Type II's, it's mainly a swap so it appeals to all VW enthusiasts.
Again, my point is that you might reconsider the timing if you plan on having this event next year.

jhicken Thanks for your input. We are looking to have a VW Swap along with our cruise-in next year. In the Grand scheme of things to have a first time event like this at the Petersen Automotive Museum is a really huge thing not just in the close knit VW air-cooled community but in the Collector Car hobby in general. We are counting on this being an annual event. We hope that next year OCTO or the Toy show will work with us and be a part of this significant global reaching car enthusiasts event. _________________ 1955 151 Deluxe L219 Congo Green (Project)

A sneak peak at what you might see the morning of the cruise-in. 2-for-1 entry into the museum if you roll in with a dub to the Cruise-In.
Historic Baja 1000 racers!
Can we help expand on what the museum currently features? Can we show them and everyone that visits the Petersen Automotive Museum from around the world, what the everday guy at the street and show level has been doing for decades! Can you visualize a similar display with V-Dubs on Lloyds/Fuchs, Centerlines, BRMs, 5-spokes, SprintStars etc, etc, etc... If that doesnt get your blood flowing than I dont know what will? Lets show them what we got on Saturday June 8th @ 8am ! "If its Aircooled, Bring it" !
