I have a problem. I have a hole just below the glovebox and its letting in a lot of air. It's not rusted out, it has 4 screw holes on each corner of the circle. I'm not sure what it is but it is bothering me. I can't take a picture right now cause its to dark to show you guys but as soon as I get it I will post it.

Old speaker hole? Former outlet for a gas heater? Hard to guess, not knowing what size it is, but whatever it is, it's not original. Sounds like it's time for the Handyman's Secret Weapon...

I'm going with the spot for an old Warner heater duct.

I'm going with get some cardboard and duct tape and seal the hole up.
Also look at getting new seals for your hood, because the air coming from somewhere.

It looks like someone had a speaker there. The holes are lined up for it, I see the rust marks for the clips, and it's the right size.

It's a hole.!

Agreed that it looks like typical clips for speaker grille screws. Speakers there are not very effective, with it aimed at the floor. So no surprise it's been removed.

Gasoline heaters usually had outlets in the middle. But not always. Some examples.

Although my first bug, a 61, had once had a gas heater - long gone, but the heater duct hole was on the right side, but down by the firewall.

weld in a patch, or get some one to do it for you

another alternative is rivets and some black silicone sealant

I know what I'm gonna do. I'm going to wait until I get my tax refund and take my bug to my local bug shop and have them check everything out and replace what needs to be replaced.

If you are not concerned about looks, you could always down to Home Depot and buy a square piece if tin a little larger than the hole. When you get home, mark the the locations of the four small holes on the new piece of tin. Drill small pilot holes on the tin. Place the tin on the trunk side and then using four, short, self taping screws to secure it too the body from the inside. You might also pick up a tube of silicone a put a bead around the hole between the piece of tin and the body. That will help seal it completely.

One more thing, consider picking up a trunk liner and wiring cover and a new hood seal. That should help with that the air flowing through the trunk.

I do have a trunk liner I just pulled it back to take the picture. But I do need seals. And also I need to bang out a bend I have in the right side oft front clip cause it is crumpled on the right of the spare tire.
