Does anybody know what type of wheels are used on the original Herbie? Are they what's called wide-5s? I like the offset and would like to recreate it on a '72 Super (just the wheels, not the whole Herbie thing). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks![/code]

5x205 wheels were used until 1967. in 1968 they went to 4x130 which is what you have. Supers never came with them so you'd have to use adapters.

So if I got some '67 or earlier wheels and 4- to 5-lug adapters, I'd be okay?

Herbie's original wheels were stock 15x4 "smoothies" w/5x205 bolt pattern, the centers were cut out and welded to 6" Chevy rims with a stock offset (all the extra rim width was to the outside). They were originally made by Bolton's in California who still modifies wheels to this day.
A couple things to consider. The offset of these wheels will not work on a later model car with stock fenders. Pre 67 beetles had short rear axles, add that a super beetle has a wider front track. Add to that if you run adapters they'll stick out even farther.

You are better off with a painted set of late model 15x5.5" slotted wheels wich will better fit your car and are avaailable off the shelf.
