I can't recall ever seeing one. Doesn't mean they didn't have one, but with the majority of type 4s having automatic transmission I don't think there would have been much call for them. I don't see one listed in this 1972 411 accessories brochure:

| I went through all type 4 parts catalogs, even been looking at dealer internal accessory catalogs but no trace of a tach for type 4s. |

I would say no, never seen or heard of that. The 1st VW with tach ought to be the 914.

I thought they were also available for the Bay's as an option as well. |
Possibly- I've seen Bay clocks, but never a tach. Type 3 tachs go back to '61/'62.

| i have see one eBay some years ago,, it was good for the karman,,type 3 and the 411-412,, but i build one with an old jetta 88 rpm insert in my old 412 clock,, but not finish yet ,,i need to insert the gas gadge,, it is a 3 wirer ,,+ gr.and point,, it work very good,,bb412 |

Oh thats intresting bb412, never seen that before! Does it look to be a VDO gauge or what? Im wondering if it was a factory/dealer option or an aftermarket one...
(I think the upper rpm range limit is enough for 70's flat four VW's  )

i have see one made by ,, thomas tacho meter,,???? if my mind is good,, some years ago,, the guy ask me 100.$ it was here on samba,, too,, 3-4 years ago,
it was sale by tacho-thomas for the 411-412 ,,in my galleryor you can look too ,,same adress,,instrument-aicool,
the ,,,skarpmetal,, here on samba as a nice pict. too in the type1 for the tachi. |
