It's been nice out so I got my parts bus gutted and began the de-lousing process.
Nice stuff overall excellent shape, PO left a box on the rear mattress and mice made a home on it. That's the darks spot you see there (it's still wet from rug scrubbing it)
Anyone have stool or console envy! I was surprised at how complete the 74's interior was. I'm using everything from it except the sink a/c unit. Behind the driver will be a 73 and down jump seat.
Over all this bus will have the highest 50 state legal passeneger count. A total of 6 dedicated seat-belted positions. That's alot to ask for all while still holding a fridge/stove combo. I love the conversation dining set up so it's going to be the best of all versions of westy in my book.
This is the dung heap all of my parts came off of. The bad thing is that I got it running! 1800cc and a 5 rib. If the body weren't toast (rusty along with a tree that blew out the drivers side) It's really more oval than square anymore. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb

Hey Chazz
What kind of shape is the off-white plastic piece in the rear that runs along the ceiling & covers up the rear hatch hinges? _________________ 1975 Westfalia Helsinki - 1800 EFI w/ Pertronix

It's cracked on one end but I'm glassing that back together and gonna use it.
The wardrobe spare tire cabinet is awesome, the table is great and so is the sink and 12v pump set up. My complete interior was a solid 9 out of 10 and 100% origional. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb

I'm running short on time already but steadily getting there. I've cleaned all of the foam and plaid. Everything re-laminated out nicely and while the weather was nice I got the wood urathaned up.
The black looks a little odd in pics but it has a pin-point design that goes pretty well with the rest of the interior. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb

I just finished recovering the front seats. Foam pads from west coast metric at @100.00, seat covers from ebay seller "thevwbusfactory" for 250.00
Sure I have 350.00 in the front seats but they turned out awesome.
My interior is finished and 100% better than I thought I could pull off. 2 and a half months and counting. I still need to have a running painted bus by then. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb

ok.....64 days and counting.
I've been welding everything and sadly still test fitting stuff. I'm sure it'll be a work in progress until the very end. I'm still getting the cooling system worked out but I did have it running yesterday and it sounds pretty good. I hope to have it driveable this weekend.
It's been a flurry of work so here's my updates.
^^^Engine's in and running...yup that's a/c only had to trim the body a fuzz to fit it in.
^^^Limited air cleaner space, still shooting for options there.
^^^Engine cradle fully welded and gusseted
^^^radiator belly pan scoop and fan set up
^^^same scoop in place- shows how much the frame can swallow and that the scoop is only one inchlower than the bottoms of the shock towers
^^^Check out that ravenna green!!! so ugly it's beutiful. My slider was brown so I jambed it out before tossing it back on for good. The color is great but does attract bugs..... if I leave it outside it'll be covered with insects, wierd. They just congregate on the thing. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb

I guess if you post the good, you should post the bad...
I got to drive my bus for the first time since october of 2008. I was instantly reminded of all the things I love about it. That big wheel, awesome view of the road.....and now incredible power to move it with. The new engine sounds great and runs better than it sounds. The 6 rib I got from Ron (good local bus dude) turned out to be great! Shifts well does everything I want it to. I'm pretty friggin excited about the whole ordeal.
Well here's the bad-
The one freeze plug that didn't come in my rebuild kit rotted out and created a leak. This plug just happens to be the one in the back of the head (right against the fire wall) meaning the whole deal had to be dropped. My set up requires the engine to be dropped with the trans but I can still do it in 2.5 hours.
Just bought the freeze plug for 2.99 so now I get to go about tossing it back in the bus.
I have this jvc everio camera that says youtube ready? When I figure out how to get a video on here I'd like to show it running.
Sucks only being 30 and technology has flown by me. Sucks even more my kids aren't old enough to show me how to work things yet. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb

There's the bastard plug
you can see where it was running down the back of the block.
I actually pulled it, fixed it and reinstalled it in a day. That includes a break to mow the lawn and fetch parts.
On a side note belly mounted radiators are a pain in the rear to bleed. The fan is set to come on at 190 and it cycles alot sitting there. I think I'll add a dash light to indicate when the fans are running at road speed. I really won't know if my scoop/belly pan idea is working without that. I'm hoping that the fans aren't needed when it's moving. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb

I've putted around the neighborhood enough to start venturing further. First I need to put my windows back in.
This involves removing the rest of my glued on headliner to finish the inside paint job. Anyone switching from a passenger headliner to the westy styled wood set up has a ton of work cut out for them.
You have to grind off the spot welded headliner tracks and replace them with the riveted on J-channels. You have to remove all glue residue and fabric remnants to be able to properly paint the area. It's a harder job than it seems.
But it give me an awesome place to display some more of this beutiful green
In a few days the upper area will be hardened and I can proceed. The rest is coming along nicely

It's a little known special edition called a "wild westerner"
There's a good deal of mystery surrounding it and thats the one reason I chose to leave the paint stock. If something needs to be stock on my bus it's gotta be a rediculously hideous paint job. Unique-definitely....
I wish we had some hard numbers on how many were made. It was a 75.00 up charge so chances are that not too many folks checked off that option box.
I do know it smashes champaign editions as far as rarity....probobly pretty close to silverfish, I've seen as many of those as I have wild westerner's. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb

I have the first coat of paint on the upper half. One more coat and I'll call it done. I used sherwin williams single stage paint because it most closely mimics the oem stuff.

My parts bus was bali yellow. You can really tell the difference when the colors are side by side. Bali yellow is not near as bright. Today I should be able to get my windows in and start driving it on the road. I'll get to the bottom color in a week or so. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb
