They did actually build them like that. If you look in the background there's an even more completed one. They also used to build the side frames on the bench in jigs. The a and b pillers doglegs and roofgutters etc all the way to the back. Then skin them when there all together
My mate had a series of polaroids showing a barn door being build start to finish with a few bit missing I think. He sold them to a collector so I don't know whether we will ever see them again _________________ 67 fastback rhd

Its the same vent hole and fixing holes as on the vent on my 53 ambulance but its in the wrong place for an ambulance ( further back ) The back is obviously wrong engine lid set up - I guess the vents could be ordered from factory ? |

pretty cool pic to order...? got the location wrong...
helps on the bumper colour aspect, too
must be more colour pics around... |
Ooohhh.......pretty.... |
Ok so if this picture is 1952, and you guys said there was only 4 colors I believe, what are all this other colors for. I see the primer ones in grey, but there is also white, light grey and either black or really dark green. _________________ UZI. "real men aren't afraid to drive a panel". |

The pic looks as if it was coloured by hand. Maybe they added a little extra paint. It would be amazing if all the special model colours were on this single rack !? and there isn't any dual color there (like with all the dove blue/white and beige/brown panel and kombi bumpers...) something's odd with that photo _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

Ahhh, that makes sense. But looking closer, there is no primer bumpers in the rack. They all have gloss to them, so what models are the remaining ones for?
Has anyone ever found an all black OG paint BD? _________________ UZI. "real men aren't afraid to drive a panel". |

Maybe the pic was staged for PR. they might have taken the rack that goes into the second step paint ( they all were taped off by hand, sanded and the second color applied), put on all the color bumpers there were just to get a nice pic ? All just guessing but who knows what they all did back then but photographs were probably rarely taken and used for special reasons, also like the ' 1953 week at the factory' by Peter Keetmann.
also the rack looks as if it will block the production line of the DLX. would be stupid to have such a huge bumper rack so close to a freshly painted DLX in finishing process. looks as if the photographer wanted to give the shot the 'time feeling', it's very well placed, you can see the plain sc body in the background, than the guys working the DLX closer and in front of the pic is the rack, giving the viewer the impression what is going to be assembled next. clever angle. Back then they were artists with the camera too ! _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !
