I only checked the mileage once after the Tims heads. I got 20-21 out of that tank. All freeway, doing about 75. Runs a bit rich too. Less on city streets, but could be more if I kept my foot out of it. No fun in that.
I'll measure the overall height this weekend.

Sweet....Thanks for the info. I would have to pop the rack off if I built one like yours or make mine a little more shallow and probably air down some. Either way no big deal. I have right at 6' to the bottom of my bed. Now it's decision time. Thanks again for the info, I appreciate it.

Really nice car you have built there!!

I'm currently building a similar style car over in the UK, liking the 'Thing' exhaust header but struggling to find a supplier?

I have searched the net for a Kymco supplier but not had any luck, can you remember where you got yours from? Hoping I can get one shipped over.

Regards,

Mike

Thanks!

Kymco sells exhaust systems that are made just for them, so you won't find a supplier. Buy direct. Their website is still under construction, but they advertise here on TheSamba. You can pm, call or email from here...

Sweet! Go for it, and welcome to the "11" club! Not sure why they are getting on your case about cutting it up... all mine took was 2 1.5" holes for the tubes from the cage to the front susp... another 2 1.5" holes for the rear shock supports, and 2 3" x 5" cut-outs for the rear shocks, and some holes in the floorpan to bold down the cage... other than that, no damage done!

What size wheels and tires are you running?
Is there enough power, freeway/hills etc, with a standard 1600cc engine? I go camping/touring and like to travel at a comfortable pace on freeways.
Can any one give me a 'to do' and 'parts' list for creating a Class 11.
I have a baja at the moment but want to create a C-11, but with minimal work; cutting etc. I like the C-11 because it has the rugged go anywhere look, yet also clean lines.
Thanks

Hi Andrew, the tires on both my car (yellow) and Surf's ex-car (blue) are 235/75-15's. We both have 3" lift spindles in the front (same can be achieved with Thing front suspension), cut & turned front, and re-indexed rear. There are many topics on the subject, so a simple search will provide you with alot of good reading. Even with these mods, the 235's will rub slightly, nothing I worry too much about though.

As for performance with the large tires, you will definitely notice a difference, however a stock 1600 will be "ok" with the larger tires... I won't lie, the acceleration will be slower and it will have a harder time on hills.... but it's still definitely driveable and will cruise fine on the highway.

Finally, the "list" you ask for is very open ended. If you just want the "look", larger tires and the mods described above will get you what you want... if you know what you're doing, you could have it done in a day (Thing suspension, cut & turn, re-index rear).

Both Surf and I (and other 11 style cars on this forum) have done additional modifications to provide better performance off-road. Once again, a simple search on "Class 11" should bring up all the threads, you can then see first hand what all is involved to achieve the level of modifications you are looking for, and begin making your "list".

For basic off-roading I would start with the following:
- lift and tires as described above
- suspension stops
- off-road shocks
- trans strap or solid mount
- engine skid plate
- reinforce tie rods

I don't want to hijack Surf's thread, so I've provided a link to my build thread if you'd like to discuss any specifics on my build. Surf is a very nice/helpful guy, and I am sure he'd answer any questions you may have about his car as well.

If you have a car, start a build thread and post up some pics...

Well said AZ-BUG. There is only so much that can be done to a Class 11 "style" car.
I say "style" car because our cars are NOT Class 11 cars. As fun as our cars are, we would get our asses kicked by true 11 cars. They have the toughest cars in the desert, as well as the toughest drivers. Maximum respect to them.

All of our cars are pretty much the same. The only real variables are the engine and paint.
Start with the list above and tweak things to your liking.

I'll answer any questions you have...bring 'em on!

If anyone is interested, the car is for sale again.
Check the Off-Road classifieds here.
Look close, though...it doesn't even look like the same car. Sad

Where did you get the wheels for that blue Class 11? I have been looking for black steel wheels and can't seem to find anything.
