Some updates. The engine block cleaned up and reassembled. All went well until one of the Jesus clips shot into to the block thanks to the cheap snap ring pliers. I was able to work it down to the oil drain plate and it fell out when I opened it.

Some more before and after shots. Thanks to DL West-Wiperguy who rebuilt the motor it now has fast and slow instead of slow and slower. I rebuilt the rest.

we got the glass in. After busting the windshield we figured out how to do the rear glass. I saw a good video on how to do the glass on the samba but we have the WW rubber ...and that stuff is way less flexible. We had the push and pry to keep the window from popping out. That’s what happened to the front it lifted and we crushed it.

Herbie Rides Again, again. I got it running Friday after fighting with it all week. I was starting to doubt if I really lined up the timing gear with the cam and almost pulled the motor when I noticed the end casting for cylinder 1 and 2 was way loose. I tightened it, ran it a bit and it was almost smooth. Then I noticed in my rush to try it again I didn’t plug in the number 2 spark plug wire. Funny thing it runs nice now.

I installed the bumpers Friday also and finished the carpeting today. I guess I can say the car is fully restored now.

I did the windshield the easy way the next time. I had a pro do it and he made the whole job look so easy. He even said the windshield is a PITA.

Thanks, we had fun with it. I like the break from building it but would like to do another some time. Good luck in what you find and remember when it gets to the point something just isn’t workin out, just walk away and come back with a clear head. I did that several times. I would say you win Herbie slam a door or two and figure it out later. That’s so much easier when you don’t need the car to get you to work in an hour.
