Just wondering, why is the Rabbit pickup referred to as a Caddy? Doesn't exactly remind me of a Cadillac!

Probably because it carries stuff....like the guy at the golf course who carries your clubs.

I think it has to do with the fact that the car it is base on is called the "Golf' in Eurupe. It is now called the Rabbit in America but it is still called the Golf in Europe. And the term "Caddy" is a Golf term so I think that's why they call it the Caddy. Plus a Caddy Carries a golf player's clubs, and the Rabbit Pickup Carries stuff too.

So Caddy's not an official VW name, more like a nickname people have given it? I kinda get the "Golf" tie-in but at least in the US never saw VW call it a Caddy. VW tries to be cute with their names...like the "Up" name for last year's concept was the middle of "Lupo" (the Up is supposedly going to be called the Lupo when put into production). And the "Iroc" concept was the middle of "Scirocco".

I believe Caddy is the official name. They just didn't call it that in the states, only in europe.

Not sure where the name came from. I can tell you that the golf is names after the current and not the game. Golf is the german form of gulf as in gulf-stream.

Well, other parts of the world, too, but essentially correct.

Correct on Golf, never saw the explanation of Caddy either.

BTW, Caddy wasn't used in the US because of legal issues with GM (Cadillac).
