does a 383 have a mark for #1 cylinder.could not see one. could someone show me where #1 should be located on the cap.and or rotor pointing on housing thanks

The rotor should point near the right side of the Bosch 383 badge for #1 cyl tdc

thanks ,looks like a reputable So Cal builder had an off day, drive gear in wrong, now rotor points to a faint mark on housing to the right as you said.

Glenn, does the split distributor have number three lobe off 90 degrees like later ones?

I've never seen one come from Bosch that has a #3 mark. If so, it's been added.

Sorry I was not clear. I meant that the cam is ground to compensate for number 3 overheating. I had read that later ones were done that way, just wondering if 383s were. I have not put one on a distributor machine to check.

They were not.

The #3 retard of 3* was on the 68-71 aluminum distributor. The switch to the offset cooler negated the need for the retard.
