Ok, the big metal washer obviouselly goes on the piece without the spring. now, on the washer it says on one side "this side down". does the side that says "this side down" face the seal or the push rod tube? i'm guessing the push rod tube side.
also does the spring go towards block or head? _________________ 1970 VW Beetle 1776cc MOFOCO w/hydraulic lifters, 042 heads and dual dellorto's

It wasn't to me. I put one on both sides. Long story.

That's how I put them on. BUT as you can tell from above, I don't let not knowing what I'm doing hold me back. |

It doesn't matter which side the washer faces on the pushrod tube.
I believe those are just shims from another application-eg. rocker arms (at least my JayCee's were similar), that also happen to fit the tubes.
I put the "writing" away from the seal, just in case the indentations of the letters caused a leak... _________________ Neil.

neil68 is correct
the washer is a modified valve spring shim for a V8 you can put it on either way.
jaycee reccommends puting white grease on the o-rings and rtv on the seals. i have installed them with and w/o rtv and the ones with rtv dont even thing of leaking. with out rtv it seeped a little. _________________ Jesus Saves
