can anyone here with original carpet in their oval vert take a picture of the under seat support bar area? I want to see how the vinyl and carpet pieces covered the metal support bar and the 2 triangular support pieces.I remember seeing a car where the carpet was sewn to the vinyl on the cross bar. if you could take a pic of the visible side as well as the back side so i can see how it was all glued in and where it ended/finished, that would be awesome!! thank you in advance _________________ Official 58-60 "Early Big Window" Convertible Thread & Registry

So are these "Convertible only" door hinge covers with grease fitting only for '53 thru 1956 models? I have a 1957 Kabriolett and it shows no signs of ever having covers or grease fittings. Is that correct? Can any other owners of 1957 model year Kabs confirm this? Out of curiosity, when did these fittings/covers stop?

Bill,
According to the book "The VW Beetle by Ryan Lee Price" the grease fittings from the door hinges on all convertibles were dropped on October 23,1956 chassis 1326040. At the same time the outside mirror became a standard equipment.
I hope it helps .

Thanks Adriano,
I wonder if that is the same Ryan Price who was the last editor of "VW Trends" magazine when they went out of business? If so, I did not know he wrote a book, and don't have that one.

Thanks 56Cabrio , from what I see they don't have a switch. This is only operated from the doors or a switch under the dash is that correct? |

Is there a link (or page number on this thread) to view the registry for 1953 thru 1957 Kabrioletts? Not sure if mine's on there or not...

Thanks "nlorntson",
I checked on page 117 and see mention of the registry and the photos of about 15 to 17 Kab's, but I can't seem to find any "link" that you can click on to pull up the current list/information. I went back to page one and tried to find a registry "link" there too, but couldn't locate one. Perhaps it's there and I just didn't see it.
I just wanted to see how many are listed currently, and whether I have already listed my '57 Kab a while back or not. Thanks again...

After removing some running boards from an early vert I noticed it doesn't have the last two holes at the rear to bolt on the running board. This is on both sides. Is this correct ? |

What year is it? Mine [1956] has 4 x M6 screws each side, plus the M8s at each end. |

I was wondering if anyone had a close up picture. I need the area where the reinforcement rail welds to the rear of the heater channel. I know the heater channel has a weld bead to the body on sedans there and I was thinking that the rail is welded the same. Mine is not there and I want to make sure I weld it like it is supposed to be. It is a little hard to see but it is circled in red by the springplate, my fault. I am not going to leave the rust holes. I want to trim the new part to the old shape, remove the rust holes then match the patch to the plate. I just need a close up of that area with the rail installed.
thanks,

Now I know the door lock and ignition key should be the same.
The glove box lock and bonnet lock are they the same but a smaller key? |
