It's my contribution back to all of the folks who have helped me so much over the past year (and hopefully in the future!). If I can get some more input on how successful people are with the 68-69 decoder I will work on finishing the 70-78 decoder.

Ok Pickle I tried it again with the same results
could it be the way the truck M-Plate is set up?
there is no second line in my plate.
I know that UO is New orleans and the 2650 is the double cab.

Well, being an app. builder myself I kind of disagree as error trapping should be part of the code (along w/documenting the code Wink ), however, non-author testing is still definitely needed.

I entered 566 in the first box in the 68-69 form and got this:
Code:

Microsoft VBScript runtime  error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: 'uBound'

/_d_decoder.asp, line 270

I'm guessing you're using an array to hold the input.

So, when errors are found do you want them posted here (which I don't recommend) or emailed or PM'd or ???

And volks, make sure you can reproduce your error so you can tell him exactly how to get it. Just saying you got an error but not explaining how you got it doesn't help the developer.

BTW, nice interface. Good work! VW Logo

The E is for a bus built at the Emden factory, not Hannover.

Can anyone help me?
My build date is 12.2, which the spec guide says is 18th March 1969, but the decoder says it's 12th February 1969. Which is right?
Would be nice to know my buses 40th birthday.

What spec guide are you using?

Air_cooled_nut, if it's okay with the forum moderators I would like to keep all of the error and question discussions in this thread so that it is easy to track the historical progress if the project. The decoder is strictly for bays, so I believe that it fits staying in the bay window forum.

Mods, if the work on building this decoder needs to me discussed elsewhere, please let me know before deleting this thread.

Guys, if the question is generally about m-codes and not really about the decoder, please post them in one of the other m-code discussion topics.

vw57drvr, thank you for the feedback. I'm glad to see that it decoded your plate properly for you. Anyone else?

I am confused, the blocks don't match up with what my M-Code plate has. Are there numbers I am not supposed to use? TIA

The blocks in the decoder are generally aligned and may not line up "exactly" as you might expect. However, they're pretty darned close.

You'll have to use some deductive reasoning for now. I might add help pages later. Also, if you have questions about how to enter your m-plate codes, it would help if you included the year of your vehicle and then provided the m-plate info here (a pic would be even better).

It's a '71, I would take a pic if I knew how to get the drivers seat to move! Just got it and am still figuring it all out, I have two manuals now, slowly going through them learning and fixing things. Never thought about the seat til now. I wrote it down.

12 058 183 E
65 0653 401 042 508
41 5 7808 US 2211 21
The 41 must be the date, your decoder did give me that.

I put in your codes and it tells me you have a biege and white 7 seater with cork color interior ...and a bunch more. I'm on my iPhone so I can't copy and paste, but your problem is that you probably don't know how to break down your codes into the various boxes.

The decoder gets better every time I try it on my '69 Deluxe. The interior portion worked this time.

--------------------------------------

My Translation:
20 DE

21 425 508 697

UK 2215 676140 909****

So it's a December 20, 1968 build

Left-hand drive, sliding door right, US Spec, Vent wing in sliding door and all windows opposite, Unknown

US Reserve, Sliding door right, left-hand drive, Brilliant Blue/Cloud White/Black

--------------------------------------

Decode Results:
Production Date: December 20, 1968
Exported To: USA, port: ??? Pennsylvania
Designation: 9 Seater Micro Bus
Engine KW (BHP): 35 (47)
Transmission Type: manual
Engine: 157
Transmission Code: -
Extras Code: 500
Paint / Interior
Paint Scheme: Bottom: Brilliant Blue / Roof: Cloud White
Paint Codes: L50H / L581
Paint Notes:
Interior Scheme: black
Interior Material: leatherette
Interior Notes: (1971-1972)
Options
425: Specifications for the USA M020, M047, M102, sealed beem headlamps... (?)
508: With vent wings in passenger compart. opposite sliding door [F -- 211 2300 000] / With vent wing in sliding door and in all windows in the opposite side of panel [F 212 2000 001 -- 217 2300 000] / Sliding window in the sliding doorand in opposite side panel [F 218 2000 001 --] / Sliding window in the side panel opposite the sliding door [F 218 2000 001 --] / With vent wing in the double cab door and in the opposite side panel [F 212 2000 001 --]
697: ???

--------------------------------------

***The only issues I found are that my m-code plate denotes the December build date with DE, and the decoder only accepts it if I use D. And I don't know why it states this "Interior Notes: (1971-1972)"
I'm pretty sure my bus is a '69. Laughing Oh, and what does "Engine: 157" mean?

Thanks, and you are right, I don't. I have looked at a couple sites that explain it some, guess I am not getting it right. Thanks for the great work, I am sure I will figure it out.

Using the info from Type.com, I was able to figure out what goes where. Interesting stuff, thanks again.

Owned VW vans for over twenty years, and VW's in general for over 30. Never bothered to look at an M code plate before. You have peeked my interest a bit, maybe I will the next idle day I have.

I just tried my '77. I believe you're getting close, but still have some things to work out Razz.

Here's my M-codes:
72 007 103

246

945134 D04 P27 073 227

33 2 7438 UH 2319 63

And a break down:
72 007 103

246 - Windscreen free from import duty for USA (with M89 only)
(M89 - laminated windscreenglass)

945134 9451 Sage green 34 camping green yellow

D04 - group code consisting of:
002 - with US specific sealed beam headlaps, for M027: with US specific carriers for catalysts (only with M524)
012 - exhaust emission control installation and speedometer in miles instead of km (with M524 only - 524 is USA and Canada specs)
067 - 12V 54A battery instead of standard 12V 45A battery
102 - rear window heating
206 - inner rear view mirror - anti dazzle

P27 - Campmobile deluxe with pop-up roof, folding spare tyre, combined gas/electric refridgerator ('76-'79)

073 - roof opening and reinforcement for Westfalia pop-up roof SO 73
227 - detachable headrests for all seats in cabin (with M161 only - M161 is seats in cabin with mountings for headrests!!)

33 2 - 33rd production week, 2nd day: 10 Sep 1976
7438 - production planning number
UH - destination code: USA - San Antonio/Houston
2319 - 23 = Kombi
1 = sliding door right / LHD
9 = Campmobile

63 - eng/tranny code - 2.0L/ 3 spd automatic

And here's what I got from your decoder:

Decode Results:
Production Date: August 21, 1976
Exported To: USA, port: Miami, FL (?)
Designation: VW Campmobile
Engine KW (BHP): 51 (70)
Transmission Type: manual
Engine: *
Transmission Code: 249
Extras Code: 609
Paint / Interior
Paint Scheme: sage Green
Paint Codes: L63H
Paint Notes: Code only used on Westfalia campers
Interior Scheme: light sand
Interior Material: leatherette
Interior Notes: -1968
Options
246: ???
D04: ???
P27: Westfalia interrior type P27
073: Pop-up roof campmobile
227: Detachable headrest in cab

The transmission and the interior are the only two mistakes I see, but there are a lot of omissions as well. Great programming tho'. I'm glad you have the patience for it Wink. Peace!
