It turns out you can buy a whole new W30, made in Brazil for the low low cost of R$60,000, whatever that means |
He raised the price, R$ 80k now (that would be more or less US$ 44k, in today's echange rate). Believe it or not, thats what a premium sedan costs back here (cars here cost their weight in gold, and by "premium" I mean a pedestrian Honda Civic ).
I do not want to nit pick, but he got all that trouble but forgot to change the doors. And no one gets the headlights right, they are like the ones from the VW's replica...
Someday I shall build my own, full size
BTW, what was after all the connexion between the W30 and the typ 62? |
i was waiting for this as well _________________ 1958 custom camper

Hi all, this car isn't a VW (obviously) but the Maier Leichtbau of 1935. It was an experimental or prototype rear engine streamlined car built in Germany by the mysterious Maier company, which is otherwise unknown. The designer, Frederich Maier patented a number of interesting modern features.
When originally found it was powered by a 600cc two-cylinder DKW two-stroke engine, but it was later mounted on a VW chassis and running gear.

This thread been quiet too long, right?
The chassis W30/26 has been carefully blasted and is now ready for some attention.

The "beak" for the spare wheel has been cut down and hammered flat. This now needs to be reconstructed. Behold nasal reconstruction

And now I'm once again checking this thread daily!
I'm curious to see what other rare parts from the prototypes survived... |

The body will certainly be interesting. To get a faithful reproduction a lot of work will be needed in the tooling. _________________ 1971 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super |

Finally we'll see one of those with the right proportions!
Not sure if telling us would be a spoiler, but did you guys unearthed any other surviving original parts from the prototypes? Not that it matters, but since the 38/6 thread, I wont be surprised if a door or an entire bonnet comes up!
Can't wait to see which colour you will choose... whichever it is, I'll respray my scale model accordingly =) |
