I beleive there was an article on this car in an old Excellence magazine. I don't have the issue in front of me, but according to their back issue log issue #127 from April 2004 has an article on "Otto Mathe's Four Cam Tin Can." I haven't seen this article in years but I recall it showing the car at a vintage european hillclimb w/ the owner and his wife in the car. I'll try to get my copy by this weekend and will confirm that this is the car in question. I also remember at least two other articles on Mathe in Excellence over the years.

anyone else have these copies of Excellence magazine they could scan?

I will probably just end up trying to get some back issues if they are still available.

What engine do the fetzenflieger have in 1954? Was it a Spyder 4-cam engine or an pushrod-engine?

well I have started to scan some of the photos of Mathe and his fetzenflieger...it takes a bit as I am not the most computer-literate person ever.

Hopefully there are some folks who may fancy this car and racer as well.

Hard to tell with that pic. Looks to be a late 50. doesnt have trim below headlights, only has single tails, no trim on bumpers, and with the sketchy haze of that pic, i cant tell if it has curved vent wings. Sure looks like it. The rear fenders are a dead giveaway, but no semaphores in the 1/4 panel, and no trim below headlight has me going through all my old info. Smile
Its a gmund car, looking at the pic above, he has the passenger door open, see the curved vent wing. Cool

that is a Porsche 4 cam Carrera engine.

you could fit one in a bug with a liberal amount of cutting. Be prepared to spend incredible amounts of money for one though.

Are you going to put 4cam in it or are you going to put in something a little less exotic?
