Can someone take a pic of the correct front and rear gate latches that I will need for my '61? Is it the flat 45 degree angle for the fronts and curved ones for the rear? _________________ VW Collector1

Rosie the Rocket Sled, '63 Double-cab
She earned her name before the transmission work. Rosie after her color and the Jackson Browne song (look it up). Rocket Sled for her shocking acceleration. She's more sedate now, but with a much higher top end.

Do you mean 90-degree?
They are both 90-degree, meaning they are L-shaped.
Best pics I could find quickly of 61s:
Front:
Rear pic - Look at folded down gate
L-shape:

This October my buddy Jon (Big Island Hawaii) decided to buy a stock Double Cab. He found a nice Ruby Red 1964 in Minneapolis MN and had it transported back to my place for restoration & storage. It's an early-1964 with ice-pick door handles & the VIN plate on the engine compartment back wall. We ordered new gray interior panels from Clara & that made a huge difference inside. Great products!
In December I got it prepared for our annual San Diego Vintage VW Christmas Cruise. We cruised with 50 other VWs from Encinitas along the beach highways into La Jolla, Fiesta Island, over the Coronado Bridge, then stopped for lunch in Imperial Beach. Every driver donated toys to Toys For Tots (105 in total). We packed the Double Cab with all the toys and dropped them off at the US Marine Reserve Center in Miramar. They were so surprised to see the truck and brought out their Commander for a photo op.
Wishing all our vintage VW friends a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! |

Maybe this information will interested all the DC owners I've made a repro striker plates for secend doors. What are you thinking of this item?
They are not ready yet but they are almost close to finish.

Nice work, down to the part number and the VW logo too! Good job! If they are affordable I might buy one to save as a backup to my original door striker plate on my '59 DC. Thanks for making them! I was wondering when someone would finally take that striker plate on as a reproduction...

Thanks Jacek,
The first versions looks great. This is one of those items that are almost impossible to find anymore. I am happy you stepped up to the plate to make these as it helps double cab owners. I hope you sell lots of them. I'm sure many people have latches that are really worn and could stand to be replaced.

Well thanks for good words I didn't make this items without the sample from you RON. Thanks a lot. Also I would like to say thanks to Alex Rojas It wouldn't create without You:) this was your suggestion to make it.
I try to use the the same material as it was in original. It is some kind of alu-zink.
There won't be the vw sign on them of course.
I will make edition of 50 striker plates. We will see what will be the interested in of DC owners. As I saw there are few interested in this
I will put the pics when they are ready.
Thanks |
