I think what I admire the most about this build is that you're thinking outside of the box. This vehicle really has some creative "one off" touches that set it apart from most high dollar baja builds I've seen. I know if someome told me they were going to build a super Beetle baja with a whale tale I would have thought they were nuts but you did an awesome job of it.
The other thing I like about this build is that while it has a pretty complex drive train it doesn't look like a super complicated vehicle. Everything looks simple to repair / replace and everything seems so accessible to get at.
You obviously have an incredible "mechanical" mind, and it surely shows in this masterpeice you have created. Keep up the awesome work. This is an inspirational build, and don't be suprised when others copy some of the aspects of your build.
Kudos!

Thanks for all the great comments on my build.. It's my baby!!! Love it!!
I finally got to take it for a ride last week!! It was a blast to drive.. everything worked out really good .. It shifted nice.. gearing seems to be awsome!! the shocks seem to be set up really Perfect... It handled great on the pavement.. No pulling or tracking of any kind!! Tons of power .. But handled it well.. No problem running super charger next year!!
steering was a little stiff to turn.. and Brakes are a little weak.. Reblead them and they got a little better.. Do u think I need to mess with different size master cyl bore?? Or just better brakes!!
Also the fuel pump was making some bad noise at one point.. shut it off and it went away.. i was wondering if the foam in tank is restricting flow??? Do I need some sort of tip in the tank hose? It Could just be a bad pump..
But all in all I was very stoked on the first run!! l
Ill get some new pics posted with shocks... Also installed some mirrors can't see anything behind the car!!
I'm now building a trailer to haul it!! Bought a cheap beat up car hauler, Raising and widening the deck so i can drive over tires.. _________________ GRIP IT AND RIP IT!!!

If you're running one of those little anodized in line fuel filters they will kill the electric fuel pump as their flow rate is to low for the pump. |

Since your running a v8 are you using power steering? If so run a hydro boost brake set up. Then you can have a power rack and pinion also. Its been a while since I read threw the whole thread so I don't remember all the specifics.
Everything else on this build is cool as heck, power breaks and steering would just add to it lol. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

i just got back from first breakin trip,we went down to s. rampart range... tore up some dirt roads and trails!!
I cleaned out all the foam lint from fuel filters and the car ran great the whole trip.. v8 has tons of power!! the northstar motor just purrred .. the car handles great! I love the mid engine!!!! shocks seemed perfect... on the stiff side!! no problems at all!! the car was sooo much fun!! i really couldnt be happier with the build... it so awsome to finally get to ralley it after all the hard work, research, sweat, blood and tears i put into this car !!
no heat in cockpit from motor.. and everything was very quite and smooth... a little work to turn.. but the v8 will turn it quick!!

Wierdly enough right before you posted in your build thread I thought of you and your build. I came across a new car coating. I know you said that your weren't going to tear it apart and do any refinishing till this winter but you might be able to get some color on that thing for the summer because the best thing about this stuff is it is temporary. When you are tired of the color you just peel it off, and you don't have to tear the thing apart. It is getting a lot of good reviews. I think your baja would look sick with a flat Black coating on it. Give it a go. It seems relatively cheap for enough to do the whole car. Give it a look, It is called Plasti Dip.

Great to here about the drive. How about some action shots, or should we just call it a trailer queen??? Just a hard time there. Most of the photos of my car are taken by me, so not many action shots here.

This sir, is an incredible build. I'd love to see some pictures and videos of this thing in action. Hell, even just videos driving down the road would be sweet. _________________ Vehicles:

had to show the new addons....
finished pull back top .. made some slider bars for the top... bent them around my air compressor tank to get the arc to match the top of the beetle..
welded tabs for slider.. measured out had local boat cover shop sew me new vinyl.. i then pulled it tight.. pinned the corners... and installed all the buttons!! came out real nice under 100 dollars total!
also added some soft belt pads!!

Glad to hear that you had a great time
Sorry to hear that you had so many problems at the end
But at least I know that you have the skills to make it even better than before. _________________ my build log
