So, I'm busy trying to set-up shipping (importation) of a vinatge Eriba trailer from the UK into the US. I've gotten several reasonable quotes, but not sure how to handle customs/duties/fed taxes, etc. Do the shipping companies handle this? Does anyone have any experience with this--I'm pretty stymied at this point? Kathleen
PS. This is cross-posted in the "transport, shipping" thread. |

I imported my Reba from Belgium. The shipper took care of everything on that side. I was sent an email, with forms/instructions attached, about a week before arrival. Took a day and drove down to pick her up. The port office directed me to the customs office and I went there and signed papers.
Unfortunately, I did not fully read the instructions. It said to call 24hrs in advance of pickup. Since I did not do that, I had to wait, literally, all day for it to be inspected. For some reason the Dept of Agriculture needed to inspect and wash before releasing. Turns out there was a downpour. I think they accepted that as a washing. I don't recall having to pay anything. If I did, it wasn't much.
The biggest problem I had was driving 5 hours home, at night on a busy Interstate, with no lights. Reba is European and was not wired for my trailer lights. Something that just did not occur to me. Unless you have a matching setup, get temporary lights to tow home.
Get inside and make sure the poptop is secured. Fortunately, I stopped before leaving town and saw the back of mine popped up. _________________ Judy

Judy,
who was your shipper? It seems that everyone I'm getting quotes from (major well-know freight companies) do not include this in their in their fee. I keep getting referred to speak with their US agent to get duty info. Very frustrating!

Kathleen, I bought my Puck from a VW website, bbt4vw.com. They took care of the shipping, for a fee. I don't remember what the ship's name was. _________________ Judy

| I am keeping my Puck. Springmeet is weather dependent for me. Let's hope we dig out of the gray hole we are in now, by then. Probably bring the buggy...I was hoping to get the hitch fabricated for it to tow the Puck over the winter, but another vehicle project is taking longer than expected, so no work on that yet. |

here's a few:
as you can see, the 70s import Pucks all have/had the blue interior. The original cushions aren't the most comfortable, more spring than cush.. my Puck has straight cushions, no springs. More enjoyable.
Good luck and post up some pix _________________ It's not how wide your hatch is, it's what you do with it.

This is my original. The upholstry was in very good shape. I wish I had just covered it instead of removing it. The curtains were pretty droopy with some stains and wayyy too thin.

Looking for a European to 7-pin American adapter for trailer lights--does anyone know where to source one? Also, is anyone familiar with the ball size ( ) on a late 60's to early 70's Eriba Pan Familia (being imported from the UK, originally located in Belgium--not sure if this matters!).
P.S. In the process of purchasing this--yay!!

Also--does anyone have any thoughts on what type of awning will fit this era and Eriba Pan Familia? It will also need some type of heating source--it either never had one or it has been removed--long story short--it doesn't have one now! Should I be looking into the truma heaters or something else? Something American may be easier to source.

Ball size is 50mm.
A propane heater can be US, but an electric heater will need to match the wiring. You'll have to decide on that.
I changed to 120v except the fridge. I could not find a 120v one that was exactly the right size. So, I opted for a step-up transformer for the fridge. Had I known about them, I might have gotten a step-up for the whole trailer. I also decided to change the trailer pin to a 4-flat. I figured that was the most common/interchangeble/lendable one.
*********
EDIT---Don't know why I said 4-flat. It is a 5-round.
And I just sold Reba. I hated to and if I had a garage I wouldn't have. _________________ Judy

| I am redoing my Puck, and the aluminum trim is in poor shape. The lower band is pitted and the trim around the door is pretty buggered up. Looks like someone tried prying the door open with a screwdriver and gouged the trim on the jamb and the door. Any ideas on how to repair such damage? |

Kathleen
As the owner of a Triton, I went through a lot of research trying to find an awning that would work. The awning bead gutter is about 6 ft from the ground. Most awnings are designed for 7-8 ft bead gutters. I bought an Add A Room from The Bus Depot because I wanted a full enclosure but they stock a light weight, inexpensive awning that should work well. Both are made for VW campers.

Yeah. I finally figured out I was spending $900/yr to store and put plates on it. But only using it 3 nights/yr. As I said, if I had a garage, or even a driveway, I would have kept it. _________________ Judy
