I am installing arm rests on my '66 bug but the back of the door panels have six different perforated spots. When I set the arm rest mounting plate on the door panel only two of the holes line up but it's tilted at a angle so that the front of the arm rest would be pointed up. How do I know the exact spot the arm rests should mount?

Is the metal arm rest bracket that slips in the catch on the door supposed to be centered? If so can I just set the bracket on the door catch and line the door panel up to see where the holes should be?

if you still have the old door panels, use them as a template. if not its going to be a lot of trial and error!
And yes that metal bracket hooks onto the door, so when you close the door you don't pull the panel off

Ok but is the bracket supposed to be centered in the holder on the door? I have to get it right the first time since you can only drill holes once. If you drill any more you'll see them.

With all these cars, can't you pull one of the panels away and have a look?

the bracket should be close the the bottom if its too high it might come off the door and you'll just pull the door panel off in a short amount of time.
The only thing i can think of is using like a grease pencil or a big ink pad... put the bracket into the catch and tape it there, next get the ink pad / grease pencil maybe even chalk and put it on the back of the bracket that goes against the door panel . Now as best as you can place the door panel w/o clips to the door you should get a close enough idea where to put your armrest.

or try taping (duct tape) the bracket to the panel W/O the clips and try fitting it to the door and see which works out best for you

I got the passenger side arm rest on but the drivers side door doesn't have the mount for the arm rest bracket. Is there any way to take one off one of my '67s and mount it on my door some how?

the mount is welded onto the car, someone must have cut it off.
the only thing now is to weld a new mount or have someone weld it for you

66' only had an arm rest on the passenger side, none on the drivers side. But if you cut the bracket from another door, you should be able to drill holes and screw it to the drivers door.

I am not sure when the change was. I think it was 65. I have a 65 door on my 66' and there are two holes for the bracket. I will cut off the bracket from my old 66 door and mount it to my 65 door. I will not put one on my drivers side. I am trying to keep mine more original on the inside.

Yes. they changed window regulator for 1965 model year. they changed it because vent window became slanted back and glass needed 2 mounting points instead of 1 when window raises or lowers straight up or down.
