There's a couple pictures of my pedal cluster on page 4 of my topic, they might be able to help you. I dunno if there were any differences in the cluster between 1970-1973 or not, though.
Congrats on finally conquering the clutch tube problem, by the way _________________ Loving my 1970 Beetle.

Thank you! Next weekend I'll reassemble everything and then get the last of my components in a couple of weeks and have my beetle back! I can't wait! _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

Must be clutch cable week, hadda do mine yesterday..felt the telltale pops and had to drive home trucker style, the woman was sad,we just started hitting garage sales...your brake spring tang rest on the pan ahead of the cluster shaft so the hook is tensioned when its installed..just put the cluster in with the hook facing the back of the car..
harvest any german clutch cables you can get...the aftermarket ones are no where as good as a stocker, even a used stocker..german ones have a slot on the end of the threaded portion.. |

Must be! I've never been so relieved as to when I pulled what ever that coiled mess is out of the guide tube! I'll be putting 90% of it back together in 2 weeks when I have the time and the money to. And then I'll be taking my engine down to the shop to tune her up and finally get her back on the road again where she belongs! I think it's a miracle that it went for as long as it had with all the issues I keep finding the more I tear it apart. But it's all being fixed now and I *should* have an issue free beetle once it's all back together. _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

I gotta hope! It's a hick town, so anything could happen! I gotta put the last of the goodies on, spend another 1/2 a pay check on parts, cross my fingers, and drive it like I stole it! _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

Glad to hear you are getting all the parts together. It is amazing what all can be wrong and these cars will continue to go!
How is the flying coming along? I am sure repairing the car gets in the way..... |

Thank you! Between all the money I've been putting into the car, a full time job, and getting ready to leave for boot camp in August, I haven't been flying recently. But here as the weather gets better and the bug is finished, I'll be flying a lot more often! _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

This banter reminds me of a song out of an old Jerry Lewis movie.

Thanks guys! This weekend I'll stuff the transmission back into the car along with getting the brakes bled and all the fun small things out of the way..And then after that, I just need to get the engine squared away and I'll have my beetle back! If there is ever a chance I get stationed in Germany, I will bring the beetle back to the homeland for a visit! _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

Hey guys. It's been a long time since I posted last, but I'm updating to let you all know that the beetle is still here and that I am too. With working full time out of Seattle, I hadn't had much time to work on the poor thing. At this point, I have all the new brake components in, the transmission reinstalled and fussed a little bit with the shifting. As some of you may know, I enlisted into the Army and time is running short with the beetle before I ship off to BCT. But in a recent turn, due to drill and other things at the station, I had to terminate my job in Seattle to be closer to the station..Ultimately giving me more time with the beetle!
So what do I still need to do? Bleed the brakes completely, install a new starter, get a new flywheel, and put the engine back in! And figure out why now the tranny is only hitting 2nd through 4th. But you all should start seeing regular updates again as the coming weeks go by and I re-establish myself with the beetle! _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

More will be coming shortly, everything wraps up next weeks and then after that, I'll have all the time in the world for the beetle. Hope to have her going before the end of September when the crumby weather rolls in. Once the brakes are bled and CV's installed, I will be towing it down to the shop to reinstall the engine..It's also peace of mind knowing that if something goes horribly wrong, I'll be at a shop. _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

Today's endeavour thus far:
New CV's from Surtrack..Fingers crossed that they are good
And as you may recall my talking about it not hitting all the gears? Well after hunting through the gallery, I found out I assembled the shifter in the wrong order..And once I corrected the issue, it shifted through all 5 like butter!
More pictures to follow up soon! _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

Round 2!
So things I accomplished today: I have the shifter installed and hitting all 5 gears smoothly, I have both new CV's installed WITHOUT dropping them in the dirt! I have the bowden tube, wing nut, and cable all installed. I have the wheel back on and cleaned up the engine bay a bit..Just a few more small loose ends to tie up and then I'll be putting the engine back in! _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)
