Just like the big Mini. Got bigger and uglier. |
<cough> new beetle <cough>
But then they had to, in order to meet the safety regulations and consumer expectations of today. |
I am amused that the new new beetle's shape seems to be cribbed from the "streamlined" vw ad art of the '30s
How about this:

Which is a very fun car to drive. 5.4L, 4 valve, 5 speed and very few emissions requirements. In 2003 it was fun to drive a car that held more people, was faster and handled better than an 03 Mustang GT. |

Aussie Ford Falcon GT it is, in NSW highway patrol livery. They take it around to car events in an attempt to bridge the gap between car enthusiasts and the police.
Here's an interesting one:

Looks like a Land Rover Series 3 variation, but that would be too easy. |

Yes, Land Rover is too easy! Here's a hint:
This vehicle was the only one designed and manufactured in its country to remain in long-term production. |

No VW parts, but it is built on somebody else's running gear. |

Too bizarre: Made by Auckland, New Zealand based Motor Lines, it's a Skoda Octavia-based Land Rover lookalike called the Trekka. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Trekka it is! It was made possible by New Zealand's high import duties on vehicles. The local content and assembly made the Trekka one of the least expensive vehicles in the country at the time and a few thousand were bulit over seven years' production. They even tried to export them to Oz and Indonesia. |

This is an interesting and bizarre one. This is NOT a photoshop! The car actually exists. I got to see it in person at Hershey last year but I'm having trouble locating my photos of it. This shot is off the net.

1930s Twin Grille Lincoln Zephyr. The Lincoln's flathead V-12 tended to overheat so this twin radiator modification probably kept it cooler.
Continuing with the theme of my previous two vehicles:

That's a Uri, made in Namibia, using a Toyota 4x4 chassis and motor. "Uri" is Namibian for "jump". _________________ Central Jersey VW Society
