Only thing car related I can think of is racing hood pins? _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

The bottom, cross looking part slides into some type of pipe or pole. |
Yeah, it looks like it could slide in to something, and jam against it if you pull back, locking it in place. I don't know if you can see, but it has an arrow on it to show which way it goes in. But I can't for the life of me think of where it came from or what it would be used for.
I've never rock climbed, or been near a car with hood pins. If it was car related, it would be more likely to be something I acquired on purpose or at least would recognize. _________________ The consequences of your decisions should not be confused with fate. |

Looks like part of a tiny version of the tiedown kits that used to come with USAF aircraft, it went into a peice of pipe that you drove into the ground and the point stayed in when you pulled out the pipe, then it turned sideways as you pulled on the cable and became an anchor. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I think you've got it, basically. There is hole in the center of the tapered side, so you could put a rod in there, pound it in the ground, remove the rod, and when you pull on the cable, it would pivot and anchor itself. Seems like a single-use item, it would be difficult to dig it out and re-use.
The cross shape on the front end wouldn't go through the ground easily, so maybe there was a point that went over it and disconnected when you pulled up.
OK, I'm satisfied with what it in general would be used for. Which just leaves the mystery of what exactly it was intended for, and how it ended up in my garage.

Excellent suggestions so far. My thought is that for model aircraft, before remote control, these models were meant to whizz around in circles before running out of fuel, tethered by a cable. I had a few of those back in the day. _________________ Jack Staggs

Ok this is not so much a WTF is it thing but cant seem to find ANY information on this thing searching the internet high & low.... And thought I'd put it here as I can't seem to find a scooter thread in here...
I found & bought this a few months ago off CL ($175) ... It has an original title but only states generic terms for CC and says scooter & it's VIN (which matches the scooter) but says noting about mfg. year, make or model. Though the title is dated 4/'60... So I figured I'd throw it on here and maybe some of you smart people here might know what this thing actually is... It's really complete and the plan is to restore it and tow it behind the Oval when going to shows and use it as a show cruiser...
So WTF is it?

Yes it is a Syrena. I parked my bug next to it for pics.
I talked to the owner but forgot to ask the year. It's a beautiful looking little car, I love the proportions. This one is in fantastic shape. The owner said that he only knows of one other nearby-in Toronto. |
