This may be easy for some of you to identify since it's obviously a VW, but I found little information on the net about it. Extra points for the country of manufacture and for the back story on this one.

close. it has actually been discussed on this very forum:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5747890
it's a KG 1600 TC or TL prototype depending on what side you take. _________________ cars:

Well, that was quick.
The suits at VW weren't pleased with the sluggish sales of the Type 34 sedan so they came up with the idea of adding a fastback. With a bigger, more accessible luggage area, they envisioned more customers falling for the fastback. In January 1965, VW surprisingly backed out of the TC project. The reason was supposedly problems with interior noise reduction.
(My information comes from Type 3 Wiki, which may or may not be more reliable than plain old Wikipedia. http://www.type3wiki.com/index.php?title=Special_Models#VW_1600_Karmann_Ghia_TC_Fastback_Prototype
KTPhil, since you posted on the forum link provided by GArBa, you should have known right off the bat that it was not built in Brazil. After all, your post was only a couple of months less than five years ago. ----> http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5748173#5748173 |

I was trying to be first, not perfectly correct. Besides, I can no longer remember what I had for breakfast, let alone what I posted five years ago!
I was thinking of this vaguely similarly-styled Brazilian fastback:

That car is so much better looking than the regular type 3 VW-bodied version. _________________

Close - a Terraplane but not a Hudson. '32 or '33. _________________ '69 SingleCab

Nothing gets past you, either.
My sources at Google tell me that one of the photos in the ad at the following link shows the same vehicle parked in a garage with the same white brick wall as seen in the photo at my first post.
http://autos-markt.com/Ford-Taunus-Transit-800-FK-1250-Dormobile-281559956439/lot118290
Part of the vehicle description in German at that website:
Fahrzeugbeschreibung:
Super seltenes Fahrzeug: Ford Taunus Transit 800 (baugleich FK 1250) Westfalia mit Dormobile-Klappdach und Original Westfalia Ausstattung.
The English translation is:
"Vehicle description:
Super rare vehicle: Ford Taunus Transit 800 (identical to FK 1250) Westfalia with Dormobile folding roof and original Westfalia equipment."
The Westfalia equipment would be the cabinet and maybe the bench seats. |
