Quick update on seat belts, and covering the cushions.

I didn't want to install seat belts at the gas tank level so I went lower as indicated by the pics. If you plan to sit anyone with a waist larger than 14", you need to get the longer middle seat belts from WW. They are too long, but the shorts are too short.

I have all my foam in place and cut to fit. I found the foam at Ikea in the form of a fold out bed mattress they had in the "as is" section of the store. By the way, everyone was talking about hot knifes and electric knifes to cut the foam. I found that if you scored your line top and bottom with a sharp razor blade down an inch or so, a 9" serrated bread knife worked great. Not perfect, but wont be noticable with the covering. Looks like 6 yards of material to complete the covers. Should be done in the next week, and I will post up completion. If you make a the bed less wide, you could get away with less, traditional fabric, vinyl is less then the width, so had to go long to go wide.

Here is how I turned my 3/4 rock-n-roll bracket to be a full width bed.

You can see the difference when put side-by-side.
The passenger-side bracket mounts to the firewall
next to wheelwell, and driver-side mounts on fire-
wall and wheelwell.

The drivers- side stays the same, and the passenger-side gets modified.

I marked center of pivot and marked again 5/8 in.
The 5/8 in. mark is the first bend after I make three
cuts.

The second cut I did not give the measurment where to cut,
but you can measure yours from the driver-side and mark
and cut, and the third cut is the angle needed to clear the
plywook seat.
Next bend at the 5/8 in mark carefully because it might want
to bent at the pivot point.
Remember that everything is in
the opposite of driver-side bracket. Allways double check.

I had a piece of flat bar laying around that was close enough for me.
I did not give a measurment here because it depends where you
cut yours. I just stacked them and measured the gap.
you will need to bend to match like in the pic.

Next the bracket that samdwiches the plywood side
and mounts to the wheelwell.
I used what I cut off. It had a 90 degree bend. I
beat straight with a hammer, and used a piece of
scrap flat bar I had laying around to weld to it.
This is full on budget.

I cut an angle and plugged the whole you see later.

I cut a second piece and made a 90 degree bend and welded
the two together to match the driver-side.
Again remember everthing is made in a mirror image.

All that is left is line it up and finish welding everthing and that
should be it.

Here the finished product before I sandblast and paint.

Thanks EDragnDean,
I didn't think you would mind this addition to your thread.
This is a great thread and figured it would be nice to keep
all of the information in the same place.
Your plans were great. When I first read your thread it
was exactly what I needed to build my rock-n-roll bed.
Thank, Brett

I didn’t see it mentioned elsewhere but I used 1” thick plywood when I made my full width bed. It eliminated any bow in the plywood. Depending on the size of the folks in the bed and their level of "restlessness" I would strongly suggest it. (I had to go to a specialty lumber store to find it.)

Good point. You could use 1 inch, can't hurt. I used 3/4 with cross supports to increase rigidity and eliminate warp, etc. 3/4 is holding up fine.

Thought about that but the supports intrude into the under seat storage space. Not much but it effects the size of container you can put under there.

I'm sorry if I mess up this thread, and maybe the answer is somewhere here on theSamba, but does anyone have a drawing with metric measurements for cutting and installing a full width rock&roll bed in a split camper? My hinge supplier only got me an "inch drawing" for a 3/4 width r&r bed...

Links or pdf's greatly appreciated!

Cheers from Bergen, Norway

Maybe I am misunderstanding the question... page 1 of the post is installation and measurements for a full width bed... ?? Inches, so you would need to convert to metric.
