these carbs tend to be a bit moist around the gaskets.
if you are up to it you should completely dis-assemble it for a thorough cleaning and lap all body the mating surfaces flat--this helps tremendously.
is/was the engine running?
it's a great, no fuss carb for any application.
i wouldn't attempt it w/o any kind of manifold heat though.
mine really likes preheated air too... _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |

I bought the engine with it set up on it. This is going on a sand rail, and this motor came off of a sand rail. There was no exaust with it, so i dont know if it was ran with pre-heat. I have new headers on the car now, and would like to avoid cutting and welding on them, are there any other simple methods to pre heat? |

You know... with the popularity of this carb for vdub off roaders I am surprised that EMPI hasn't made a copy of it. The quality of EMPI's carburetors has gone up significantly in the past few years. I have a couple friends that even say that they like the EMPI's Weber copies better than the Weber carburetors currently in production. That is a pretty bold statement.
If EMPI made a copy of this carb I would buy it in a heartbeat. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

I am considering a set of the Zenith 32 ndix carburetors on my build 1800 cc Type 1. Also Found this article about them.
Zenith 32 NDIX
I'm trying to figure out the best head and cam to run with them on a VW.
Had them on a 356A no real problems with them. They have nice big thumb screw adjusters which made them easy to tune. I would set them different ways,
1. Best Idle,
2. Best performance,
or,
3. Best MPG. I have seen them get 36 MPG in the Porsche 356A but sport driving resulted in about 19 mpg in a 356A Normal Engine.
On the Porsche 356A these carbs were without a choke or preheaters. The car would fire right up at 5 below just pump it then keep pumping it for about 30 seconds a few times. Two carbs and the heat transfer through the short dual manifolds is the secret. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

OK so I got the 120 mains...
But I cannot find 40 or 45 idle jets... Porsche suppliers don't have them in stock... Anyone knows who sells them?
BTW I saw people removing the horizontal bar that is on the carb top...
What's the aim of that bar and the aim of removing it??
Thanks! |
Whoa, that's my old carb, haven't been on in a while since I sold my baja. The trick to removing the crossbar is to plug the vents on either side to prevent the bogging noted by borninabus. You then can tap the plug on the side of the carb by the accel. pump linkage and vent into the air filter. You can see how I did it in the picture, JB weld or brazing have both worked for plugging those holes.
I also noticed someone is looking for 40 idles? I think have some message me, if you are still looking for them. Love these carbs, and I stoked to see people still fired up about them. |

I am thinking of buying a set of these I know about for my 1800 Type 1 engine build but not sure about a few things. Like manifold size and Venturi size to run. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

Standard T1 manifolds should work fine. maybe 25mm SC vents? _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |

Im havin issues with the zenith again and unsure of where to look
i have an 1835 with a w110 cam ,the carb has a ram type setup (individual runners for the 2 barrels ) i have a fairly mean dribble out of the right side venturi at idle , ive checked the fuel pressure and it is putting out 3 psi the float level is at spec and ive tried to lower it even more with another washer and it still dribbles and loads up the motor , when i rebuilt the carb the manifold was too close to the alternator so i added approx 1/2 inch of same diameter tube to the right side and shortened the left side to get a little clearance from the alt. and im wondering if thats causing more vacuum to the right side and sucking fuel out of the venturi , the carb doesnt seem to be flooding over, i run it for a few min, shut it down , pull the top off and the fuel level seems ok , is it possible the air vent to that side is plugged is why its dribbling ? i dont know im kinda lost on what to do |

its definitely not overflowing the fuel bowl i added an extra washer and confirmed my level lower than before , checked needle and seat and it seals at 5 psi with very little pressure on button , so i decided to pull the carb again and do a meticulous search for dirt, trash inside the carb , all jets were clear air corrections were clear air bleeds were clear. There were a couple of specs in fuel bowl possibly from having the top off and on but stumped everything was clear and clean, i separated the throttle plate from the main body to get a good look at the idle circuit and dang tore the gasket so i spent 30 min making a new one , lapped the surfaces a little blew it off and looked at the throttle body in the light and low and behold it hit me like a ton of bricks, with the butterflies closed i could see more light around the right side then thats when i noticed the dimples on the butterflies one was up and one was down |

fixed it purrs like a kitty now , reasembling the carb i found my idle air jets did not have orings on them and they were loose, and butterfies were flip flopped, dang i can get it to idle under 500 rpm |

Hi,
I did removed the crossbar, and plugged the holes, turned out good.
The problem is that the carb didn't worked at all. No fuel apart from the fuel pump squirts...
Was that because I didn't vented like you mentioned?? Should the vent go to the air intake or can I let it open?
BTW I am looking for 40 or 45 idles... If you are willing to ship to Spain... _________________ 1967 Split SO-42 Dormobile |

Seems that found the problem...
in the cleaning process I swapped the 175 needle valve for a 125 one so bowl coudn't get filled as quick as needed... giving a lean condition.
Finally I ended with a pretty good setup and improved a lot from before...
Carb top with removed cross bar and VENTED correctly
180 A/C
125 mains
50 idle (STILL LOOKING FOR 40s OR 45s)
175 needle valve
LONG (yes) acc pump... (squirts just OK, will get a short one soon...)
Other than that it wears pretty much what you guy run in yours... _________________ 1967 Split SO-42 Dormobile |

Hi there Folks!
I'm gonna replace the gaskets to my Zenith NDIX but... just wondering how I could remove the two rivets I highlighted in green...and above all...if I have to remove them!!!
I tried to take them off by pulling the old gasket out but they seem to be blocked...
I also tried to pull them out with a blade but nothing happened...
I guess they are removable due to they were made to take in place the gasket only...
I can't take off the old gasket as long as I brake it...
Thanks in advance!

I solved the problem by myself!
The two little rivets are not fixed as I guessed....they are push rivets but they were blocked by oxidation...
I took them off by using a home made tool...

Hey guys. I was hoping some of you Zenith gurus could help me out here. I have this intake manifold that came in the box of parts when I bought my Baja. I've been told it's for a Zenith carb but which one? I hear these are good carbs for Bajas? How well would one work on a mild 1776?
Thanks!

the manifold will fit a Zenith 32NDIX, Holley Bugspray, or Weber DCN/DCNF and maybe some others.
any of the above would be a good single carb for a 1776 _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |
