Hey all-

My wife and I (and the Westy) moved to Seattle this past January. After enduring the tail end of winter, we've got the itch to get the van out to the coast this weekend. Does anyone have any good campsite info they'd be willing to share?

We're looking for quiet primitive sites, don't need any bathrooms/showers/hookups. We'll have 2 dogs, we're looking to explore tide pools (w/ or w/o the dogs, hike around, etc).

Thanks everyone!

My info is not current, but many years ago I camped on the beach at Neah Bay--way, way out on the Olympic Peninsula. Totally remote and without any sort of amenities. I do recall some tidepools too.

I have spent several nights at Salt Creek Campground on Crescent Bay. Just west of Port Angeles. It's bigger, but it has some decent, private tent sites that you can put a van in. You can camp right on the coast too which is nice in good weather.
Stick to the shoulder seasons though. It gets crowded in the summer.

I may be letting the secret out but, Go on the wa. fish and wildlife web sight and search the "Map it" for wild life areas or hunting lands. The maps will show you "state land" not just parks. The Willapa hills and Long Isl. are some great places this time of year.

check out Shi Shi beach. I think you can camp near by in your Van or you can camp on the beach - walk in only though. you hike a couple of miles to the beach where it is completely untouched and natural. tide pools, rock formations, etc.
