Testing the waters I have THREE cars listed for sale in various locations...hoping to keep the T3 Truck, the BMW is my second favorite, and the "old" reliable Ford Focus would be missed the least _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

I am getting interest in my two other cars for sale-- don't need to sell all of them, so it's looking more likely that I will keep the Truck I will leave the ad in place this summer just in case someone can't live without it
Hopefully the Ford Focus or the BMW will sell sometime in the next few days and I will be able to buy the secret project I'm scheming about _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

Sold some stuff- looks like I will keep the truck unless a good offer comes along
I found a '61 Bug that wasn't being advertised by asking around and came to an agreement with the owner. I'm excited to try out a Bug-- been driving it all around since I picked it up on Wednesday.
Today I took the truck out for a drive to compare it with the Bug- definitely different: the truck's 1600 DP with dual carbs. certainly has more power, visibility while driving is better with the Type 3. The bug shifts smoother and brakes better- really just an adjustment issue. The little 1200 is smooth, if under powered....but it is an early "big window" and is lot of fun

mostly driving the Bug lately, but the truck still gets some love
Big News is I found out some interesting history about the truck and its early years from a couple previous owners- more to follow _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

Thanks! Here's a quick rundown of the history I learned from a previous owner (a friend of the original owner/builder):
It was built in '79 or '80 (later than I thought)
The builder used a How To article out of "Hot VWs"- anyone know which issue?
They used an Oxy/Acet. torch
The bus parts used to build the cab came from Eastside Auto Wreckers in Bremerton (pictured- now out of business)
The nephew of the builder learned to drive in it
The first custom engine was a 1776 with Solexes
The builder used it as a daily driver to Bainbridge Island and back
Waiting for pictures....fingers crossed

Truck is back in action after mostly hibernating over the winter. The '61 Bug and the '82 Bmw 633 have been my daily drivers...
BTW Would you be willing to wander over to the 58-67 Beetle forum and help me with an electrical issue?

Trying to get the truck back in shape for more driving---
Here's what's going on. Driving down the road the car drifts slowly off to the right instead of continuing straight...alignment, right?
Under braking, it pulls HARDER to the right, but not drastically...
Neither movements to the right are noticeable with moderate grip on the steering wheel.
My local shop looked at it today and found the old leaking axle (replaced a while back) on the right rear made a mess of the drum brake. They cleaned up the drum... Otherwise they found nothing wrong. However, upon testing/driving just now there is no change in the pulling to the right.
Ideas? Safe to drive...? _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |
