Bringing up the hub cap tool in A 56 kit.I had A 56 oval that I had found hub cap tools down in the bottom of the "A" pillars.I don't know if they came from the OG kit.

Early oval tool bag. 1954/55 beige seat material. I believe in 1955 the wheel lug/sparkplug tool would have been with the arms/holders clipped in, otherwise identical.

There is no mention of the hub cap tool until 1959/60. From january 1960 it is listed in the manual, that would be the large round type. From august 1967 it changed to the "U"-shape hub cap removal tool. So if it was the U-shaped one you found it was not from the OG kit for sure.

Late oval, smaller than early oval and now only four pockets in the right side, but two in the left. Seat material tool bag, probably late 1955 or 1956 ? because the wheel lug/sparkplug tool has the arms clipped in.

Time for an update Smile

From August 1962 the wrench becomes 8x13 (previously 8x12) and from March 6th 1963 (type1) the screwdrivers changes to one double ended blade screwdriver.
Here is a 1963 tool bag, also notice the small 14mm socket is thinner than the older ones.

From ca. October 1963 the screwdriver handle is made from plastic. The small 14mm socket is now a grey alu-like material, and yes... it is a 14mm.

Here's the tool kit that I found in my 1973 Super Beetle Sport Bug. Not sure what's original and what's not for this late model car.

The tool on the left seems to be a later addition (not original).

Type 1 Aug. 1970 instruction book lists:
- Fan belt 9,5x905
- Pliers
- Combination Screwdriver
- Wrench 8x13
- Sparkplug socket
- Dorn/Bar for sparkplug socket
- 13mm socket
- Hubcap Tool

This is the last year where the instruction book lists the tools.

And the hubcap puller is the big rounded one.

Hello !

I've 57 oval beetle et I would like to know the measurements of the oval toolkit.
Does someone could give me all dimensions so that I can create one myself and put the tools eras?

Thank you very much.

I have a 57 Oval.

I can make measurements for you, please send me a PM to remind me. Unless someone else helps you before i get a chance.

Mine is green canvas.
Its quite dirty. 😀
It does have a roung hubcap puller. I believe it's original to the car.

I dont believe they began to be included In the tool roles until 1960. I think earlier?

Was a bag for the jack standard on any vehicles ? Ive never seen one in person, that I remember anyway.

I believe the cloth jack bag was standard through 1955 model year. The locking clamp was introduced for the 1956 model year.

That makes sense. The shop i used to hang around never had stuff that early. So explains why i don't recall ever seeing one.
