I thought it amusing that two other people besides me had SKIS on the back of their Beetle on a 94 degree day!
I had bought a ski rack that I wanted for a long time last month out of Europe, and hoped to have it in time for the Hemming Motor News Concours D"Elegance show at Stratton Mt. in VT that I got invited to. I found some old (free) "bear trap binding" wooden skis locally, and got some wooden poles off eBay. I gave the skis a quick resto.
But the rack didn't make it from Europe in time for the VT show.
So I put them on the back of my '50 sunroof for the Terryville show!
Anyway, the other thing I will remember is that after an engine swap last year, I never hooked up the heater cables on the old split, and they were stuck open, I felt heat coming out on the drive down. Wasn't too bad, it was 63 degrees when I left the house in the morning. I thought to myself that I must wire them closed somehow at the show before leaving for home... but I forgot to do that.
So yes, I drove the 130 miles home to eastern MA with the HEAT on. Fortunately with both (original one piece) door windows open, pop outs open and sunroof all the way back, I didn't feel much of it... or perhaps it was so damn hot outside I just didn't notice....

I saw those on your car Manny, and think I will have to find a set of old ones narrow enough to fit on my rack. Very cool.... _________________ John Henry

the rack I have has this box like opening on the underside where you would normally secure the skis, so I secured them to the underside, it worked perfect.
That's a sweet ride you got yourself there buddy. |

Can someone help me out? There were a couple of guys selling Watercooled parts at the Swap meet (the second row, I think) under a white pop up tent. Lots of Rabbit stuff. The guy was wearing a black shirt and it had a picture of the back of an early Rabbit it on it in white. He was also sitting next to a young guy with Dred-locks. Any one know who these guy are? I lost their contact information. I believe he drove up in a Rabbit pickup. _________________ The Older the Better!
