Why would you want "porch" on the side of a valve cover? Maybe I'm missing some thing here, or maybe it's an Alabama thing.

Here`s the two old school valve covers after a fast polishing job. Both fit very well and I also milled and sanded the gasket area just to make sure they where flat if I had a 6" belt sander that would be the way to go. They do have some pitting here and there nothing bad with more sanding I think it would clean it up but there fine as is. I`m thinking of selling these for 100 bucks but in the future I will have to find a shop to do the polishing or sell them unpolished I just don`t have the equipment to do it.

PS. Its Porsch Mark LOL and I think the valve covers are bigger but it could be done but not by me at this time Cool

heres the two new and the old covers.

Up here in Canada it's PORSCHE, I rode in a nice RS porcha last week.
Faster than a 36 with a Judson. Nice work on the valve covers!

I definitely want a set of these, and another set later, or 2 now if there might not be a "later"... Polished, unpolished, whatever. Put me on your list and PM me whenever mine are ready. fantastic project!
I'm doing a stroker 36 with Schneider cam, straight cut cam gears and dual 28's on worked-over stock heads with a 15# flywheel for my old school 59 type 1 and an Okrassa for der Frau's 57 rag. Both engines demand these valve covers!!!!

Finished up my molding bench this weekend and now I can give the knees a break. This bench makes it so much easyer to make molds that it`s almost fun night and day from the concert. So just before firing up the grill today for a cookout I give it a try and poured two covers and melted down some scrap for the next ones to come and it worked out great. The bench is lined with galvanized sheet metal and has about 250# of greensand in it with room for more if needed. Have a look Cool

great thread, glad to see work continuing.

Have you settled on a gasket style and mounting stud sealing design?

I have a suggestion: The newly released version (a few years old) of the original EMPI C-channel bolt-on vc's seals work pretty good.

Bolt/stud seals: If it were me doing this, I might just copy that bolt/stud seal system and machine the cover to use the same seals (for long-term availability, and to focus your energy on the casting and post machining, not making seals).

If you've never seen one, the 2 mounting bolt/studs seal by means of a 1/2" or so deep counterbore in the valve cover itself, that a short, tubular seal goes into, then some sealant, a washer, then nyloc nut. The seals that came with mine (which have the CB logo on them) look to be some 5/16" (8mm) polymer hose, precision cut somehow. Cole-Parmer is a great source for tubing.

VC to head gasket/seal: A C-channel sealing gasket would be outstanding, but with 36hp being smaller, a guy would have to make a custom C-channel gasket mold specifically for the 36hp size (read: big bux). Too bad because these as so much better than any cork gasket by a wide margin. But a guy has to do what makes sense to maintain a price-point.

hmm might be able to use the 1600 empi/cb seals and cut & join them back together, like making "O" rings, napa uses reg super glue but there might be a better glue. just a thought. and I thought his valve covers looked good, now look at the bench/valve cover manufacturing facility he has built!!! I wish I had some stuff for you to pour.

Loctite 406 is the glue!

Have used it several times when I made O-rings.

I'll have some samples of both styles with me at the OCTO/Classic weekend if you want to check them out. I've been running the old school style on my oval with no leakage, next week I'll run the new style to check the fit in a sedan.
