Hi guys I'm building up a fairly extensive Baja and I'm after opinions on what engine to run, I'm not picky it just has to be under 1.8ltr and cheap to purchase, and of course it must go well and be reliable.
Thanks everyone, and all suggestions are welcome

A well built 1776 is a reliable engine if your looking for something bigger than stock. As far as new engine builds go, they don't bite the back pocket too bad.

i was going to dive into the watercooled department, i figure for the same money as building a vw engine i should be able to buy the adaptor, engine, bits and peices and have allot more reliable HP..

Do you guys have Ford 2.3's in Australia? That is a popular water cooled motor to drop into a bug. There are lots of adapters and stuff out there for the 2.3 if your looking to do water cooled.

Do you have a bus transmission?

No bus trans..
I have 3? IRS beetle boxes, I figured after I ran out of gearboxes I'd swap to a Subaru gears box and get an adaptor made to suit the engine. ($ I don't have atm that's why I'm sticking with what I have for the timebeing)

What car are the ford 2.3's from?
I need the engine to be 1.8ltrs or under for registration reasons..
Thanks everyone

Get an 1800 type 4.

Heaps of grunt and good torque.

And it will bolt up to your trans with a few minor mods Smile
