I did something similar many years ago on a buggy. T4 engine with stock manifolds exiting forward into 2 chevy chevette mufflers then a turnaround into 2 tips on each side. Works and sounds great.
On my Beetle with T4 2.0 Porsche I used a 4 into one header shot it forward then into the left running board. Inside the running board is a single glasspack resonator and an expansion chamber just before the outlets. Back pressure is bang on. Sounds great.
I do not have issues hitting things on the road. Speed bumps are easily cleared so I do not see an issue with the Gdown unless your ride is lowered a lot.

Take a look at a mid engine header. It does this EXACTLY. You would need to make a tunnel in your parcel tray to clear the collector but it would be pretty easy to do. I have one sitting in the shed from an old autocross car.

Not EXACTLY cause I would have to modify my tray. But yeah thats basicly along the lines of what I was thinking. keep it all tucked up and I think it would make a great baja exhaust. Go from the collector, split too duals, and dump out the sides. |

I think when we tested the sound with a db meter it was around 88db at 5000. On the G-Down USA Facebook page if you scroll down thru the beautiful selection of VW photos there is video of the dual XX fire up and first drive and that is the latest. The Dual XX is quieter than the merged header/ phat boy muffler combo. I have been told that it sounds like a V8 many times and even met a random person who was telling me about the "legendary"V8 Beetle that had been seen and heard up at the Rock Store and when we compared notes learned he was talking about me! The Rock Store is a section of canyon road 15 minutes from my house that is a premier motorcycling and sportscar enthusiast spot on Mullholland Hwy. |
