It's like dual cannons, with mufflers. Bet it works about as well. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

That setup looks like something that I would definitely pass on. Probably garbage. _________________ It is what it is. |

Yeah, on each bank, your exhaust pulses are out of phase...one exhaust pulse arrives 180 degrees after the first, the next arrives 540 degrees later.
A regular merged header phases the exhaust pulses 180 degrees apart from each other; even pairing exhaust pulses between cylinders 1 and 3, and cylinders 2 and 4 would still keep the exhaust in phase, 360 degrees apart.
It's analogous to the problems created by dual single-throat carburettors, like Kadrons and ICTs...in which case, if you're running these carbs, you've finally got an exhaust system that matches _________________

A single-port with dual-singles is similar to a dual-port with dual singles...the difference is the location where the single runner diverges into two runners. In any case, you've got a single carb that experiences its intake pulses out of phase. _________________

You guys are pretty hard on GDown. You have crushed those guys. Youve taken thier header and beat thier own heads with it.
But I too associate the sound to those little buggie style cars that show up at the drag races and has 4 seperate pipes going in all directions. You really only hear one pipe when it happens to fire off. Makes you want to reach over and put the plug wire back on as a favor. |

I harbor no ill will toward G-Down, this exhaust just isn't my flavor. I know they were posting up on the Cal Look Forum or another site awhile back, insinuating that the dyno figures would prove this system design superior to other merged systems, and that "back pressure is a myth." That last part is a direct or darn near direct quote.
I haven't seen any dyno graphs to date, but would be interested to see how things turn out. |

Sounds like a riced Subaru - like it has a misfire. (Can anyone explain why Subies sound like crap, when they have the same engine layout as the ACVWs?)
Can't help but think that system weighs twice what the merged systems do, easily, while the merged headers are well-proven performers. And I'm not fond of drilling holes in my trailing arms, either.
No thanks. Unless they offer one with cylinders #1&3, 2&4 paired, so it doesn't sound like a Subaru or old Honda CB-K series bike (400, 550, 750, etc). 'Course, then it would sound like an old BMW or Triumph... _________________ '75 1303A - "Debbie"

I think Subarus sound a lot cooler than in-line fours, myself... |

I myself love the look of the exhaust coming out in front of the rear wheels.
What if we help them equalize the design and make it smooth. |

Would crossing the front cylinders to the opposite side of the car help at all? I like the front exit also but am not crazy about the sound either. |

I watch the folks here go from needing help with basic maintenance to full blown experts on all things vw in a short time... Kind of funny... even more ironic was the public outcry very similar to this about A-1 exhausts when they were new... viscious circles fueled by polly... _________________
