Our '57 Cdn. Deluxe beetle's odometer turned 100Kms. today
I only drive it down our long side road to visit a friend every once in a while.
I adjusted the valves on its 1600 engine-and changed the oil
checked the transaxle fluid level
rear axle bearings haven't fixed them selves so that is next while it is on the hoist
cheers

When I got the car the deck lid was an eye sore, so I spray painted it and also mounted some egg taillights (from the measurements found in the forum!) and upgraded the bumpers. Still need to spray paint the rear fenders and find (and paint) a pair of heart taillights.

Picked up the rest of the parts for the rear end from the powder coaters yesterday and ordered the seat covers and foam from Sewfine today. _________________ - '57 Sunroof Beetle (project)

I removed the driver's seat and drilled out all the spot welds and ground the tack welds on the seat track
then moved the track forward two inches and MIG welded the spots back up
the seat now goes back that two inches and bottoms out
I'm 6'4" and it feels better having a little more leg room
cheers

So after many attempts to get all 4 gears on the tunnel type transaxle in my '57.
I found the aftermarket urethane coupling didn't line up properly with the front shift rod to get all 4 gears.
but more than likely I didn't drill the hockey stick in the proper spot
so a little "Dremel" work with a diamond bit I opened the alignment hole in the front shift rod and bolted the coupling screw down tight
Four on the floor sure feels good again
cheers

I found a few NOS door handles. One from Gabe with Keys and a passenger side handle from England.
The handle was brand new with two SG keys. I sent my ignition to Gabe to have him re-key it to match the key code of the new handle.
The passenger side handle came from across the pond and is also very nice.
Now onto the wipers. Any one have some nice 57 correct wipers?

I had to accept the fact that my old pan was too far gone so I got a new one. Mid '57 only needs both 1/2's welded in. Got it home, and prepped it for welding tomorrow so it can get to powdercoat in a week or so. _________________ - '57 Sunroof Beetle (project)

Rolled my '55 Deluxe Sunroof "Martha" outside (see avatar photo) and fired her up and let her run for about 15 minutes. They've salted the roads recently, so "Martha" isn't going anywhere other that the driveway for a while...

I got my car home today, sorted through a few parts found inside, installed the missing headlight and stared at it for hours. Not much of an accomplishment I admit but I didn't want to go too far on our first date.
I have standards afterall. In this case it is a deluxe but you get the idea.

Got one of the bullet blinkers to work. Been around VWs a long time and never actually saw that before. Cool and cute all at once. _________________ Have nice 914, want nice Bug |

My windows are almost impossible to wind up and down on my 56 rag. So today I took the panels off, removed the window regulator/actuator, cleaned and greased it even though it was as smooth as butter. The damn windows are hard as hell to move up and down the felt channels. So I silicone sprayed them and they were still extremely hard to move.
So next I removed the inside scraper and they move effortlessly now. Not sure if I have the wrong inside scraper installed or what but I think I'm going to just order and install the German Door rubber kit and redo everything as the rubber looks pretty shoddy anyways and I am a little suspect that the doors were pieced together by the PO.
I also removed, cleaned and reinstalled my exterior door handles as well as adjusted the door striker plates so everything works as it should now.
This week I will receive all the parts necessary to shoe-horn my recently rebuilt 2.0L type 4 motor back into my little 56 rag Now I just need the weather to stay nice up here in Seattle.
