real nice, what a feeling that must have been, way cool
I have a friend who was a vw mechanig in the 80s.Today we together checked the tappet clearances on the newly rebuilt engine, having done 800 miles it was a bit over due.All was well with only a thou out from setting at 6thou.Now set at 4 thou.Left rear wheel had a good coating of oil, thanks too the slinger those org riveted linnings did not get messed up.We loosed off brake backing plate and using a slide hammer the wheel bearing came out.The bearing was noisey, pitted and cracked all the way through.
happy as Larry to be able to do in house repairs as an apprentice

Our Oval starter seems very sluggish so I towed the car into the shop and installed a rebuilt auto stick shift starter motor. The engine spins like it should with a new starter but no start.
I sprayed some starter fluid in the air cleaner and the engine started right up. Not a spark problem has to be fuel
I looked in the throat of the carb and didn't see any fuel spraying when I pump the throttle. I pulled the carb and found the accelerator pump diaphragm hard.
I found a good 28 pci carb in my parts collection and tested it before I put it on.
We went for a drive down our long side road, perfect
It sure feels good when everything comes together like it should.
cheers
Hank

Paint is on the agenda, I side the is. Inside the cabin and under hood. Leaving the outside bare and rusty.

Well finally got to the wiper motor. It was running very slow and irratic .Took it out degreease the inside. Relube and notice that spring that holds the comutator brushes were not in contact with all the time. There is a spring that holds them on the commutator. So to fix-it. I used a ball point pen's spring, two short pices of vacuume hoses, and small zip ties. What this does is to insulate the spring ends from shorting out across from negative to positive. So far it's working well. Thoug I do not drive in the rain, I like to be prepare.

Did some repairs inside our quarter panels while my wife made our pan begin to look pretty again (And more importantly, not rust again!) Last photo is the car before it came off the pan next to it's roommate.

That's ingenious! Nice McGyver-ing there! Might have to try that on a motor I have with one of the insulated paperboard ends missing.

Just arrived yesterday for future use in my Jan of 1957 Deluxe Beetle Kabriolett project. I can pull the unknown condition original transaxle out of the Kab and stuff in a known refreshed/rebuilt unit.

Woooo Hoooo! The refreshed Okrasa motor will now have something nice to snuggle up to.
