Got my back home from the paint shop. Slowly putting it back together. Single makes a nice work bench.

I decided to shoot some new pictures and opted to use Janis Joplin's old house in Larkspur, CA as the setting.

Got the center mount antenna installed and allot of other small things. Time is hard to find these days[img]

Cool
How did you manage to bend that antenna base into that steep angle (most people use that model antenna as a side mounted antenna, but this looks good as center mount antenna!) ??
I'm asking because I have a similar one and I also want to use it as center mount antenna like you did, and I'm afraid to mess up with that antenna base and brake it (you know how rare these Hirschmann red tip antenna's are nowadays)....
Thanks in advance ! _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank

My throw out bearing has been making noise for a few years so this weekend it was time to deal with it.
I pulled the 40hp fresh air engine out of the ’57 bug and replaced the front seal and clutch assembly. I stuck the engine back in and used a 30mm wrench on the rear pulley to turn the engine over to adjust the valves.
It would stop turning near #1 cylinder so I cranked the engine backwards and it would stop near #3. Not sure what the heck was up so I pulled the engine again.
Everything looked good. I was able to do 2 complete revolutions with no stoppage with the engine on the floor. The only thing different from when I drove it into the shop was the new clutch/TO bearing and seal.
I pulled the clutch off again and removed the flywheel to see if anything was wrong, everything looked good and new. I torqued the flywheel again to 220 ft.lbs. I noticed a couple new scratch marks on the inside of the bell-housing near the clutch cross shaft arm on the clutch cable side.
Looking over the new pressure plate I see 3 balance weights that were causing the stoppage so I stuck the old still good pressure plate on, I stuck the engine back in and the engine spun fine.
I did find that it was a whole lot easier to install the engine with the rear pulley and fresh air heater boxes off.
I know how to have a good time.
cheers

I decided to stop the rust from eating my running boards
I hit them both with my palm sander and 100 grit paper
I then applied degreaser, metal etch and 2 coats of POR-15
The finished product

Rebuilt the OG headlights. New WW chrome trim rings, headlight adjustment screws, gaskets and 6v Wagner headlights. Had the 3 major parts of each headlight sandblasted and powder coated by a local shop. Since these are the "eyes" of the car I wanted them to look as new as possible.
I also installed a set of Chip B's LED tail lights. All I can say is WOW, what a difference. The kit even came with a ground wire that goes to a rear fender bolt and eliminates the sketchy ground from the factory. Highly recommend.

Replaced aft section of heater channel and outer section of cross member.
Now the lower part of the outer skin is waiting for tomorrow and then all rust in critical areas are done and the body can be lifted off the pan and the last bits and pieces of rust can be done.
Thanks to Mika and Wolf for some very nice panels!

Replaced outer skin after replacing the heater channel section.
The new piece ready to be installed.
And welded in place.
So now very close to lift off the body which I hope will happen Wednesday. _________________ 1954 Beetle - running - Went to HO 17

Lowered the pan from the body after rust repair in critical positions where the body and pan are bolted together.
The body is supported so the pan can be lowered and high lift jacks placed below the pan ready to lower.
Pan is separated from the body for the first time in at least 45 years - I know for sure that it has been lifted once before as the gasket is rubber ad that some sealant has been added as well in some areas. The pan is in absolutely good condition - no rust repair needed and no signs of past repairs except from below the battery - impressive with the rust in the body.
The body is now standing alone and there is good access to do the last bits of the rust.
Maybe I should start a build thread. Will be away for work next 2 weeks, so maybe I should spend some of my off time putting some photos and text in the forum... _________________ 1954 Beetle - running - Went to HO 17
