It doesnt seem so quintus. But they will now im sure.
I hope someone gets it who knows what to do with it. 25 is steep, so hopefully they are willing to be realistic. |
It's listed in the Samba classifieds by a site member so he's probably very familiar with this thread and what he has as well.
Considering it's described as complete, no missing parts, original motor/trans, etc... $25k doesnt seem totally crazy in my opinion for such a rare car to the right buyer/restorer but I guess the auction will decide in the end. Starting bid should have been made a silent reserve to generate more bids and activity though. He eliminates auction fever bidding by starting it that high.

Lawrence taillights are from Fiat...and can be bought on ebay.
I was checking on the Arizona-Coupe on ebay...wow - zero bids at 25K? That is the "hobby-financial-crisis" showing in full force all right....3 years ago it would have been 45K and sold imediately... |

Rometsch was a small producer and used everything what the custumer wanted to have on the car. This is the reason why there are differnt type of taillights on the car. There is one flat, round lense which was used for the early Rometsch cars
and for other cars like the Porsche 550
or the early Glas GT cars
There was also a longer styled lense
Which was also used for the Glas GT
or the Alfa Romeo SS
The late style Rometsch
used the taillights from the Fiat 1100 - here in Germany build as Fiat Neckar...

Hi Aka,
yes that are copies I made of my bumpers in vietnam. They made a moulding.
My opinion: very good work and good quality.

Those bumpers are copies from the original bumpers of the 515.
Remember, all the Rometsch Lawrences are handmade and Rometsch made the bumpers fit to the finished body. No bumper is exactly the same.
The chrome pieces on my three Rometsches are all slightly different and a piece from one car doesn't fit exactly on another car. If you use these repro bumpers, you have to adjust them to the car to make it fit perfectly.
Regards

Hi Patrick,
the bumpers from the 515 fit perfect to my rometsch 517. I think the smaller chrome pieces can differ more than the whole body (where the bumper must fit). You can adjust them easy because they are made from polished stainless steel and not just rechromed metal.

So you had luck that they fits on your car on the first try. When Rometsch coachbuild cars had an accident, the workers build a new bumper, brought it to the customers car, correct them on the car, flew back to Berlin and did there the final finish inclusive chrome. No bumper, no bodypanel fits perfect between the cars if you only accept a 100% fitting. Producing them in stainless steel is not helpful for correcting work and the shining os polished steel is not the same shining like a good chromed piece.
But these bumpers are much better than no bumpers. |
