There are two different housings, those were standard on all italiang bugs from mid 64 up to 1975 when turn signals were relcated in front bumper.

I have a few sets of these. One of the sets I have are not chrome but have a matte black finish. I have never seen another set like it. Was there a chromeless version standard Beetle availible in Italy?

Yes, that was for the first edition of the "Jeans" bug, the germany made one.
We also got the mexican built Jeans some years later but that one had turn signals in the bumper.

Thank you for the info! How hard are they to find? I found only one picture of a Jeans Beetle that had them installed.

NOS black ones are not easy to find, while NOS chrome ones sometimes show up at swap meets.
Used are an easy score in both versions.

I bought the matte black finish version from vwtoyguy and intalled them on my '96 Mexican. I like the black finish as it matches the chromeless scheme of the car. I polished up the lenses and housing and they look great.

Thanks, I used this model paint to restore the amber portion (where the amber coating had flaked off) to new.

Worked like a charm, bonus: $3 shipped from Japan Very Happy

Anybody run into earlier ones for pre 64 cars?
I've got a set that fade from clear to amber but the housings are stock so they don't have the bar to separate the lens like the ones posted in this thread.
Just looking for info.

I have to wonder if you're describing front lenses that were on a car parked facing south with good sun exposure, for many years, so they got sun-baked and faded progressively from front to back...

Definitely not faded. The lenses are new and perfect. Made by Hella. The transition is perfect and even on both. I'll post a pic.

I have an identical pair of those- "won" off eBay many years ago. I was told they were for the Italian market as well...

Trying to find out country of origin. Anyone have an idea? as 1969 USA models dont come like this one as it has :
1. low back seats
2. no trim on hood or side of car from front to rear
3. swing axle and not IRS
4. Kph speedo
5. no rear window defroster wires in glass or wiring to the rear window
6. metal dash with no holes from where a padded dash was removed
7. split window turn signal (see picture. split with metal between front and side lenses)
8. model 1220 on vin tag under front hood/behind spare tire.

To me it looks like a typical Euro 1200 model- tweeked for the Italian market with the signal requirement.

I want to get a set of these for my beetle but I can't find them anywhere. Is there a place that I can find them online?
