|
|
Can anyone confirm the thread pitch for a 65 Bus? These are 18mm diameter threads. I am pretty sure from measuring using tools in my shop that the thread is an M18X1.0 (left hand).
The reason why I ask is I am working on my brakes, and the out-half of driver’s side axle spindle thread is in poor shape. I cannot find a die nut to chase the threads, and I really don’t want to disassemble of my front beam right now, as I haven’t found a used replacement spindle.
I’ve noticed wheel bearing clamp nuts for beetle and similar VWs, and I was told by one person in my local VW club that they had used a clampable lock nut on their Kombi... is there clamp nut that would fit my 65 Bus?
These are what I could find on-line:
VWC-131-405-669 - WHEEL BRG CLAMP NUT LEFT BEETLE 66-79 GHIA 66-74 TYPE 3 66-74 THING 73-74
http://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC%2D131%2D405%2D669
I wonder if these would fit my 65 Kombi?
-------------------------------------------------
I also found these, not sure of their diameter nor thread pitch but it looks like there is a left and a right:
ACC-C10-4210 - SPINDLE LOCKING NUTS FOR KING PIN FRONT END BEETLE / GHIA 49-65
http://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC%2DC10%2D4210
any insight appreciated! _________________ Drew

Thanks for the link... I searched with no luck.
The link mentions using clamp nut from a Bay, but cannot find these in any on-line vendor catalogue. I’ll try and look at a Bay axle to see if my threads are the same or not. _________________ Drew

Any local VW garage or junkyard should have them. As far as I am aware, they are not available new. |

Would you have the clamp-style Bay ones? _________________ "OG = Original German" -- TheSamba.com dictionary |

Not sure if they're any cheaper than the one you posted a link to, but Viscous Fan wrenches are nice and thin and have a cranked end so you can get at that back nut. _________________ Andy
