Is there something that a person can use on good pans that are solid. No snow or salt here but Id like to get something on them before I coat them with sound proofer.
Thanks for the replys in advance. |

I've never used POR -15 but a good enamel tractor paint should give you some great rust protection. Heck, even good old Rustoleum would do a fine job too. I grew up on a farm. We bought a used tractor when I was 8 or so and painted it with regular Rustoleum – 25 years later it looked as good as the day we painted it and not a spec of rust. |

Oh, and I mean the Rustoleum you paint on with a brush or roller – not that aerosol rattle can stuff. And yes to the primer. |

Does Rust Bullet have any of the UV problems like POR15?
I went to the company site, but didn't find any mention of UV reactions. |

Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer. Not to be confused with the rustoleum red primer!
The Rusty Metal Primer works GREAT! I have a car that has been sitting outside for over 30 years and where it was painted with this stuff, it is just as solid as the day it was put on. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

I would recommend masterseries. Very simple to work with and tough as nails. |

I used 2 coats of their silver primer & one chassis black topcoat on my pans... great stuff & it's cheaper than POR15 as well. Supposedly they use this stuff on bridges.... _________________ jlex.

I'm pretty new to all this stuff myself. I bought the masterseries for my inside pans. I painted it on. I was well pleased. I built a hoop house to cover my bug and I think I needed a little more air flow. That stuff was very strong. Only problem I had was that I had to wait for it to be shipped to me. About a week.
I went around town looking for similar products. I found this product called Trailercoat. I'm not sure but it seems to be the same or very similar to Masterseries. After I ran out of the Masterseries, I sprayed the whole car with trailercoat. I haven't seen any threads on this stuff so I'm just going to have to wait and see. I bought it at the marine store but at the marine store it's a bit pricey. You can buy it online for a little less than masterseries. _________________ My mechanic told me they were money pits. Actually, what I did before applying the Masterseries was to eliminate as much rust as possible with a wire wheel on a drill. Next I sprayed it with Phosphoric Acid to eat off the remaining rust, then when dry wiped it down w/ denatured alcohol.
You can get a gallon of phosphoric acid at Home Depot pretty inexpensively. Going into the third PA winter w/ no signs of rust! _________________ jlex.

Don't get it on your skin--it stays there for about 2 weeks!
Forget about cleaning & re-using brushes too--get a bunch of cheapos (even those foam-type ones work, or even cheap rollers if you're doing a big flat area--like I did the roof of my trailer with a few years ago), and then just throw them out when you're done.
And also someone else commented about using it in a well-ventilated area--definitely agree with that suggestion also... _________________ Stock Steve

Rustoleum Oil-Based Primer - has survived !
Painted 10 % of 1 Rear Floor Pan Exterior using Rustoleum Oil - Based
Primer / Paint. 9 years later the Rustoleum still looks good !
Has seen 1 North East Winter, remaining South East Winter's.
Pleased with Rustoleum's performance / price !
Not being judgmental on Rust Bullet nor Masterseries; only commenting on Rustoleum performance / price.
