When driving home this night it crossed my mind that I don't really know any places in my cars where I could keep a secret stash of stuff, for whatever reasons there might be. So do you guys know any good spots? This might be of interest to people that have just bought a new car as well. ;D _________________ 1970 Beetle

The foot rest on the passenger side is good also, if you don't need to get into it while driving.

Yeah, I had to stash a just-opened beer can there the very DAY we discovered it while vacuuming it out. Good thing we lost the screw holding the top down! When the cop asked me to get out and knelt down to look at the passenger floor area, I was sure we were busted. But he looked under the seat, not forward, and shook his head "no" to the second cop. He said it looked like we were trying to stash a weapon under the seat.
Five minutes later we were on our way. We got a warning about the burned out tail light.
Good thing he didn't look in the ashtray. Not the best hiding place... |

Very true! But if you mellow out with the smoke, you'll probably stop using the horn anyway! |

I used to keep assorted important "items" inside the door. I cut under the map pouch and put that hook and loop stuff so I could close it up by sticking my hand in the pouch and pressing the bottom of the pouch against the inside of the door.
I got arrested one night for loitering in a park - don't ask this is Arizona and if the cops want to take you in there is a law that will let them - and my dad went and drove the bug home.
My dad found the items in the door because they rattled, but the cops when didn't find anything when they searched. I never heard any rattles, but I always had the stereo on.
I also used to keep a 22 revolver under the passenger kick plate. After about six months I took the gun out and it was covered in surface rust.
One other note about concealing items. . .
I got into a small accident once in my bug when I was 18. The cop that showed up to write up a report had to check the vin number on the registration against the car plate. No cop has ever checked a vin plate before or after so I don't know what his deal was.
The woman I'd hit said the vin number was under the back seat where I had a pound of imported green stuff under my back seat in a clear zip lock bag. I handed the cop the registration, and said I'd read it off for him. I lifted the seat up, stepped right into the hole under the seat so I was standing on the zip lock bag and read the numbers off the tunnel.
The cop said the numbers matched, and I stepped out of the car while pushing the seat back down.
The lesson here is to always use a storage container that is not clear. _________________ Wanted - Seat Bottoms with good springs for 69 bug. Don't care about upholstery. Local to Mesa AZ only. |

I'm partial to somewhere near the engine, in the handful of times I've been searched by law enforcement, I've never had a cop look in the engine bay.
Hubcaps are another one that they don't think to check, as most modern cars don't have real hubcaps. |

Are you talking about the oldschool steering wheel or the later one with that big square thing in the middle? _________________ 1970 Beetle

You might wanna use a battery box next time, maybe with a hollowed out battery inside. When the cops ask you why you have two batteries you can just go "duh, spares?"
I thought about the passenger side foot rest, quite some space behind there. In my car the carpets are home made so you can actually access it quite swiftly... _________________ 1970 Beetle

And I thought I was the only one stashing things under that metal plate in the passenger floor.
In the bay, there is the hollowed out areas under the seats where the jack goes. Never had an officer lift the seat out and look underneath. _________________ MAKE FORUMS GREAT AGAIN

When I had my brand- new 1978 Westfalia a bunch of us know- it- alls used to pile in it and go up to Cleveland for Indians home games.
The drinking water tank always had a giant Martini inside.
The other substances were in the spare tire out front. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.
