Hi Nubby
If you are going to do any work on any car... learn to weld. I didn't know how to MIG weld before this project. Once I decided what I was going to do with this project I picked up a welder (Flux Core) and practiced on some scraps before working on the car.
BEST THING I EVER DID.
I should have learned years ago.... it really isn't that hard. You just need a little practice. Once you start to see what you can do with the welder the possibilities are endless with that you can do.
you can weld on panels, fix broken parts and even make your own tools and jigs.
Go buy a welder you can afford and start practicing.... worth every penny _________________ Old VW's Never Die, They Only Get Faster!

Hi Zach
I believe you can remove the luggage tray all at once from the window down. The trick to removing any of the panels is to remove all the original seam sealer and find the spot welds. Once you can see the spot welds it is easy to see how the car was put together. Get a spot weld cutter and some drill bits and cut the welds all out and you should be able to remove any panel on the car. Sometimes you will still need to get a flat pry bar or screw driver in-between the spot welds to pop them lose from each other. |
It will look like this. I did change out the crossmembers, though.

Thanks for the replies! I've helped my dad replace some rear end sheet metal on two different Camaros now, so we've gotten pretty good at drilling out spot welds I just wanted to make sure it would all fit back into place without separating the pieces. Thanks again! _________________ 62 Rag - a little crusty |
