I've talked with a guy from a local club affiliated to FIVA but his voice changed when I've told him about my intentions to make it a ratlook. To those guys, new shiny paint is better than faded og paint. #Fist

Thanks, Pierre.

Yes, I was thinking about FFVE, just went on their website and discovered they have an international section : FIVA. My opinion : just do it and never tell them about any "look" your bus is going to have. Just tell them you are trying to bring it back to life (and on the road), which is 100% true. They don't know a shit about "cal look", "german look", or "rat look". And it's none of their business. It's your bus. Use their help to get your title, and then enjoy your bus as you want. Try to talk their language, get the paper. You already put a fair amount of money in it (in gerson body metal), it would be sad to restore it and not have papers...
Good luck. Cool

Just keep all that cool ambulance stuff aside ready for the bolt on when you get tired of camping... Cool .Peace.

I've received some more funky green metal.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

That cargo floor section isn't quite what I was expecting.

Maybe you guys can help me.

According to the first digit from my vin (6082792), the bus is from 1966, right?

The '66-'67 cargo floor is a little bit different from the years '55-'65.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen. Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The tricky part is that my bus has that '55-'65 kind of cargo floors, even though, according to the vin, like I've said, it's from '66. Could this be because my bus is an ambulance?

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I've decided to go with the '55-'65 style, since that's what's in there, but what I've received is the '66-'67 style.

Should I stick to this '66-'67 pattern or send it back and ask for the '55-'65 one?

Ambulances seem to be a law unto themselves on body parts! It's always possible your bus was built on a Friday afternoon of course??? Laughing

Don't know why yours is not as per year though? Having said that you don't know what's been done to your bus in the past and what's been bodged at some point as the parts that were needed either weren't available or they wanted a cheap solution.

I've removed countless nails and replaced them with split pins and the like. Or bus had it's late reduction boxes replaced with earlies at some point (now put back to large hub nut late's).

I'm not looking forward to the day we have to give it the full resto...Goodness alone what horrors we'll find!

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your reply.

I know you have a '65 ex-ambulance; do you know anybody who have a '66-'67 one?

Depending on how much you're going to replace I say get the floor that most resembles yours.

Yeah, but like "soundcatcher" said, who knows what repairs were done to it? What I have in there is for sure a '55-"65 type of floor, but really is this how things are supposed to be?

So it took me a while digging through contacts and forum topics but there's a guy on here called Nick who goes by the name of Merlin who's got a unmolested (I think) 1967 Ambulance in Africa. You might want to get him to have a look at his floor and see what it's like. I think he's without any interior so it might be easy for him.

I can't think of any others off hand.

You might want to get in touch with the guy who runs http://oxtonspeed.com/type21f/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2&Itemid=2 He might have come across someone at some point and if I remember right he was quite knowledgeable about special models!?

Nic was the first guy I've asked, but he told me he has the laminate wood flooring, so he can't see how things are.

Thanks for that firebus link.

You might want to put a post on the www.ssvc.org.uk forum as there are quite a few ambulances in the UK now.

BarryL had a great idea and Nic was kind enough to help me with it.

So here they are, pics of Nics '67 Ambulance cargo floor, from the underside:

Can you spot the difference, I mean the similarities? Very Happy

My Dutch funky green supplier told me he looked in a VW Microfiche and the '66-'67 style of floor is the way to go, but I just needed a second opinion.

Thanks Nic, thanks a lot!

Hey Paul. Are you on the road at the moment. If you are you should pop over and say hello at the Horsham VW Meet one day. It would be great to meet you and have a nose round your Ambulance! The next one clashes with Brighton Breeze which I am guessing you're going to. But it runs all year round....Check out the website for info.

Oh and back on topic......Sorry I've not offered pictures of our bus up but it's not exactly how it left the factory by any means. 45 and in it's 4th country (including where it was built in Germany) and lots of mod's he been done in it's lifetime to keep it on the road..... Wink

Hi Paul,

With help all the way from South Africa, I've got the floor issue settled, thanks to NIcs '67 RHD Ambulance.

Hey, Andy, if I had needed pics of your ambulance floor, you wouldn't have escaped too easy. Twisted Evil

I've called this young fellow twice: http://www.carandclassic.com/car/C167909/

Wow, just found this thread.
Simply AMAZING!!!
Keep it up and beat those bureaucrats.
Here in Oz we aren't allowed to have ANY rust at all aside from surface rust.
It's really frustrating.
As for the purists, just suck up to them until you've got what you need and then do your own thing.
I'll be watching this resto. Very Happy
