sorry. i really ment a regular warrior style frame, with a truck style rear end, also made out of tubing. so instead of the rear tubes going down at an angle over the motor, maybe something like the rear bars flat, but lower, and some sort of truck bed. _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress

Thats exactly what i was looking for. i didn't know they made a kit for it, lol. see, i'm always hauling something, weather its engines, lots of VW parts from a swapmeet, wood from homeepot, etc. so i figured if i made it a truck, i could make it a much more useful vehicle. I also have a 79 chevy c30 with a 454, which gets around 10mpg, so having to constantly drive to to pick up everything that won't fit in my bug, gets expensive quick. so with a truck rail, i'd only have to use the chevy to haul the big things that would be way to heavy for the rail.
I really just wanted to get ideas on how i could go about doing it tho. i would prolly make the bed itself out of expanded steel, just to keep the transparent look to it, (since rails don't have any kind of body on it, atleast mine doesn't, lol). and prolly cut the rear end off my rail, and make something similar to the berrin add-on in the link above.
Thanks for the pics so far. Keep those pics commin _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress

That is awesome! Me likely . What are your plans for it? Going to build it up I hope. That's too neat to let sit! B) _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress

I was building my sandrail with a cargo rack over the engine, but in the end decided on a roof rack instead. but if you look at it you can see how it was going to work. even had the expanded metal for it.

That is kinda cool, but by cutting out the upper side rails and smaller diagonals in the sides, the frame has been seriously weakened. _________________ Richard

The rear deck isn't installed in this pic but you can get the idea.

Oh man, that's exactly what I had in mind . I love that "fat ass" type look and I cannot lie xD. Gives the rail a sort of "heavier" more aggressive type look IMHO. _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress

The fenders and bumper are a nice touch too. I've even thought about having 2 sets of rear tires, with 2 engines and transmissions as well. It would be a 6 seater, with an even longer truck bed. I'm sure I'd get a lot of hate for that, but I don't really care xD. Maybe one day, if I ever get around to building a bigger shop. _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress

I like the way you think. This is what I would build if I had the money:
Single engine vehicles are for people who lack imagination....and money

I loved that movie! I was even going to build the bug from it. I bought an S10 off Craigslist, and got a 350 to swap in, and was going to use my Baja bug body, and a shortened 14 bolt rear dually rear end, and I had a buddy with a weiand supercharger he'd sell me for next to nothing. Only paid $300 for the s10, but I got it home and it was in way better shape then advertised! Body was too nice to scrap, so now I have to put the 350 in it, and finish it, before I can get to my other projects xD.
And I had even contemplated doing a 4 wheel drive Baja, with a front and rear engine. I planned on just using the existing suspension from any type of AWD car (like a Subaru), adapt it to the tunnel, then have a driveshaft place down the street make me some axles with a VW inner joint, and Subaru outer joint. But I lack the time and money unfortunately.
The rail idea I might do tho. I pretty much have everything to do it. I sold my kit car, but the buyer just wanted the body to turn into a golf cart. I can use the rear clip from the pan, on my rail, fab up some bracing, I have another short block and an identical spare turbo to build another identical turbo motor. I even have another spare transmission. Now I just need the time, and space to actually do it lol _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress
