My brain keeps saying "to each his own" but my eyes just keep doing this -->
Lowering your honda civic might just maybe add some "performance" value, but dude you already have a PORSCHE 911!
You are no longer a wanna-be! Don't give up your dignity. If you think that it will get you "looks" then you are right. I would give you the same look as someone who just smacked my Momma's ass. |

This might just be the greatest and most brilliant thing I have ever read in my entire life.

Stock ride height on a US 912 was high. I too dropped mine a bit and yes there is a noticeable change in the "performance" (if by performance one means "handling"). Dropping the car also drops it center of mass which should help with handling. You can drop a 912 too much causing steering angle issues which is why the Turbo tie rod swap is popular with the crowd that likes the "slammed" look. |

I know it's an old thread, but I had to comment.
Dont give up your dignity? Come one mate, thats a bit harsh dontcha think?
As you say, 'each to their own' and if I owned a 912 (I am considering it now) mine would be lower than the one pictured.
It just depends on the individuals personal preferance what looks good or 'performs' better |

Yeah, you can slam a Porsche but I'll guarantee you it will slam you back every time the struts bottom out. When that happens you have no "handling" and if you are in a turn you're off the road.
One way is to buy struts with repositioned spindles but better yet go to coil overs. |

The best way to lower a 912 is to put a VW motor in it. When it's time to sell, it will definitely be lower _________________ Jack Staggs

Go low profile tires but save yourself from these facts of lowered life.
1. The lower the car the lower the resale value.
2. Damage costs are inversely proportional to ride height.
3. The Porsche engineers had a clue about what they were doing.
3.5. Search for that clue.
4. Most chicks don't dig it.
5. Remember when people thought it was cool to have their pants lowered?
6. When in doubt, refer to #4.
7. The only time #'s 4 and 6 do not apply is when said chick is trying to sell you crack.
8. Back to being serious, after chasing that fashion trend you'll find out the car's ride is harsh and your mom (I'm assuming based on your desire to lower a Porsche, your still living in your parents basement or in the loft above the garage, and you have no girl friend) will find it uncomfortable.
9. Exhaust systems, Heater boxes, engine cases, front valences, shock mounts and other suspension components are expensive. Don't ask me how I know...
10. You'll wish you hadn't and still had the money you wasted.
Not hate'n just say'n....
Save yourself before it's too late. |

As I am now the proud owner of a 66 912 Porsche, I can assure you nay sayers that mine will be as low as I can possibly go!
It's my car and I'll do what I like! If lowering my car, or ANY car for that matter, results in some damage, well that's my problem isn't it?
Lowering will reduce a sale price?? Are you serious?
The old saying 'If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything' is very apt in this thread

Lee, going too low leads to all kinds of handling issues. Bump steer, odd handling characteristics and a harsh ride are a few. The cars are very sensitive to improper corner balance. If you really want to slam your car, you will need to open your wallet to properly address these issues. A good race shop familiar with these cars can guide you through the things you need to do to keep the ride acceptable. _________________ 1970 Deluxe Sunroof Bay Brilliant Blue/Cloud White

X2 on that one very well said ,why do this to a torsion bar suspension anyway?.
I think the OP is happy to make his car dangerous, you only need to follow a heavily lowered Japper and watch them dancing all over the road over bumps.
Cars like this in my country get taken of the road by the police for safety reasons.... |

I'm ignorant in the finer points of Porsches so forgive the stupid question: This thread makes reference to a higher "US" height vs. a lower "European" height? Were they sold with different suspension heights depending on the destination? _________________ Central Jersey VW Society
