Does anybody have positive and measurable results with this upper pulley? I understand that it is supposed to draw hot air from alternator to help it cool down a bit?

I know that the way the alternator backing plate is assembled, there is a gap and channel so a part of cooling air from main cooling fan goes through this channel to the alternator. This may help even more.

I´m looking for opinions before I spend money. Thank you!

I am running one on my drag car since I am running the stock alternator, but no fan shroud to provide air through the alt. to cool it. It helps a little bit, no alternator failures so far with it, without it (and without the shroud) I cooked an alternator. It still gets pretty dang hot though.

Thanks, does the pulley push or pull the air through?

It looks to pull the air through, which makes sense since the fan shroud would only be able to push air through from the other side.

Most VW places have the pulleys. They're a bit pricey though.

I run that exact pulley on a hydraulic cam, otherwise stock 1600 SP. It is definitely thicker than the stock. I also went with the updated alternator stand that CB sells. It all seems to be really nice replacement parts. The local VW expert here tells me they are from the Mexican Beetle parts line. Those guys south of the border have a bit of trouble with engine cooling and don't even have heaters in their bone stock bugs. Anyway, works fine for me.

Did you have to add a spacer behind the pulley to clear the fins? from the alternator body?

CB doesn't seem to carry them any more. I was just looking out of interest, I still have one in the garage.
