just as a rough estimate how close would you guys say this is to L87?

I think the effort you are putting forward is very commendable and I applaud you for taking on the project at age 16. Don't get me wrong. But, since you seem so detail orientated, I would think you would like some positive criticism. In this case, my suggestion would be to find a friend or hire someone who can weld. Then have them help you out where you need help.

Buy a cheap-ass HF welder.

It'll be a damn good learning tool.

I don't think it's preference that makes you say that... that said, I love "hammer welding"... google it... old school....

well it was supposed to be when I originaly bought the car, but now that I've put so much work into it I'm starting to think about buying a junker for a daily. Maybe a bus! Or a Ghia! or a notch! Very Happy

That is nonsense.

If you're in High School, don't they have some technical/industrial arts classes? I'd think one of the teachers or students could help you tack that apron on. Do it right. I'm just trying to be honest with you. Rivoting replacement metal on a car is no good.

The main problem with this is the fact that state, or school, paid for resources are going toward non school projects.

Kyle, Ask your friends if anyone has a welder at home that you could use. It doesn't have to be TIG. Just get a gas ready MIG. Miller, Hobart, and Lincoln are good welders to start with. Just stay away from flux core.
