Ok so I have another question regarding the rear seat. How have you all supported the bench rear seat on the Manxters? I know with the bucket seats there is a cutout in the fiberglass for the seat, but the bench seat doesn't form to those cutouts. So there is support in the front using the bar that pivots the seat forward, but what has everyone done for the rear of the seat? Thanks for all your help. And the project continuous!!

Hear is how we support the rear seat....

You have to loosen the seat belt ancor and spin it backwards to remove the inspection plate. It takes less time then if you were to un-screw the phillips head screw and remove the plate......

How do you loosen the bolts if you cant get a wrench on the nut inside the tunnel? What am I missing?

We use nut-certs or we weld in a threaded bung. Not nut unless its tacted.

Thanks Kevin..

eSlack1, here is that project I was telling you about where they notched the bench seat to allow it to sit back in the pockets properly:

If that’s the normal seat height then the head injury would probably kill wouldn’t worry about seat belts

Seatbelts are designed more for the rescue people than the passenger during a wreck - EMT's hate playing 'find the body' when the victim gets ejected... at least, this is what my buddy the EMT says. Shocked

Coolrydes, thank you for all your help and willingness to share your trade secretes. If you don't mind me asking what is the tube size you are using for those two bars it looks like 1" diameter. Thanks again for all the good ideas.

No problem, and I would not call it a trade secret if it helps someone who is building thier own car.... We use 1.25 .090 wall for the seat bars and 1 inch .090 wall for the seat belt bars

Back seats? Still don't know why you need them. I even pulled the back seats out of my FJ and blazer as they serve no purpose.

That is why I need a back seat too. I have two little kids. Is there any other ideas out there on how you have done your back seat. It would be good to see how different people solve the same problem.

The Manxter 2+2 Doesn't generally have a Bench Seat as it has seat humps which allow them to fit the buckets lower than a bench would go. The Dual Sports Has a rear Bench seat.

In Australia we had to make the Manxter 2+2 kits accept 3 point retractable seat belts and up size the Roll Cage to 1 3/4" 0.120 wall DOM to meet the design standards. Here are some pictures that might help in regards to the Manxter. If you look closely you will see the threaded bungs ( 7/16 UNF) which are welded in for both the front and rear seat belts.

In regards to a rear bench seat in a Manxter 2+2 I have put the interior out of a 2004 Mustang into my Manxter but it had a few body mods to allow it to happen.

Before that it had PRP Mini Seats

But as I said it has had some body mods Smile

Seriously though the '+2' in Manxter 2+2 means that the rear seats are only meant for occasional use, same as an MGB 2+2 or the likes.

In the examples photographed the rear seat passengers' heads are perilously close to roll bar tubes. I don't think I'd ever consider taking a passenger further than around a parking lot or a showground, I'd never venture out onto the road, Bruce never designed the car as a day-to-day 4 seater.

Do you think they'll ever bring the Resorter/ Tourista back? Now that WAS a 4 seater!!!

Ya I know the Manxter isn't made for a bench, but with over 150 of them, I would love to see everybodies creative fabrication techniques.
Hindsight if I would have known all the negativity about the back seats in the Manxter 2+2 I would have thought twice about the purchase.
P.S. The weld in threaded inserts worked out great
