Many moons ago I was obsessed with it. Vail, Moab, you name it.
Now the only thing that remains is my trusty Cannondale F1000, and a new 2010 Cannondale F3S. http://www3.cannondale.com/bikes/10/cusa/model-0FS3.html
I still ride everyday, but now just for transportation and leisure. The pipe dreams of sponsorship faded the day I got married.
Average about 50 miles per week now. Nothing more. |

Yup did some riding yesterday after a couple weeks of cold weather. M-Hill is a local spot that is privately owned, but open to the public. IMBA is working on a DH trail with big rolling jumps, 6ft drops and a rock garden to end the day. This is an older video, but you get the idea of what it's like. This right in the middle of Rapid City.

Absolutely! People don't think of Florida being fun for mountain biking, but there are some great parks to ride in around here. They are abandoned phosphate mines so its alot of 20-30 ft almost straight down followed by straight up. Lots of trees, roots and rocks to wind around too. I've been hitting the exercise bike pretty regularly to get back into shape now that the weather is cooling off.
My bike is a 2007 Redline Monocog Flight 29er that I've built into a 1x9. I love the single speed, but we have some really flat trails, as well as very technical ones, and I just couldn't find a ratio I liked for both. _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"

Some of the best bike trails in the state, KY (so I've been told) are in my neighborhood. I've ridden them several times, but haven't ridden anything else for comparison. I don't get out there as much as I would like, though. I have a GT bike, don't remember what it is though. _________________ My '72 Super |

I used to ride in the mid 80's through the 90's in S. Fla. I still have my "John Tomac" Raliegh XT equipped bike. I miss it, my hips are shot. Down here every foot you drop you have to ride up. No lifts to the top of the mount. The single tracks are great. |

Used to be into it heavily, 50 plus miles a week. One too many crashes, and now my ol bones can't take the abuse. What really sucks is how much I've got tied up in the bike: a 2000 Trek Y33 with full XTR and 2 custom built wheelsets.
I loved riding. |

I was stationed on the West and East coasts and took my road or FR/DH rig whenever we left stateside. Australia by far was the best ride. Took a train from Richmond up to the peak of the Blue Ridge mountains and cruised 28K of mild freeride but almost all of it was downhill! Epic
While on the east coast we used to hit up Diablo Freeride park in NJ and it has grown quite a bit. Winter resorts are seeing the easy transition to hosting MTB activities because so many that ride pipe/park in winter do DH.
For now I am in Dallas-Fort Worth and there is a small group of dedicated FR/DH riders and diggers. With the minimal elevation we have had to cram a lot of hits without disrupting flow which is difficult. Here is one of the first videos that was done while building the first trail. It's Vimeo hosted so it loads slow. There are now 3 dedicated DH/FR trails with a lot of lumber!

I ride a lot; both on and off road. Lately I've been
commuting to work a couple days a week. It's about 35
miles roundtrip on mostly back roads. Just trying to get back
in shape for race season. I'm planning on a couple 100k
mtb races and hopefully a 24 hour race as well. |

A few of my friends started this race last year, I get out with a bunch of guys way above my level, they go 50 miles I usually make it abut 10:
Mud Sweat and Beers
It is a pretty large race now...

BUMP almost 2 years. I'm shopping for a new bike. Stuff ain't what it used to be. 29" rims, 2 chain rings, hydro brakes? Back in the early 90s I had GT Zaskar with XT drivetrain,I put the components on a Raleigh John Tomac later on. I still have both frames... but they cannot be upgraded due to age and tech advances. It seems GT is not the brand it used to be. I have my eye on Trek or Specialized. I'm not going to race anymore, but I want "The last bike I'll ever buy" ( I'll be 50 this year). I'm looking at a cross country or single track bike due to Fla. conditions. Any insight? |

damn. you ride mountain bikes too? you'll have to come up for a weekend to check out the local spots. very challenging stuff.
oh. I ride a rigid 29er. I would consider a 29er for sure. they roll over roots and rocks nicely. _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"

I've been off quite a few years now, health says I need to get back on. Thus I need a new ride. I raced the phosphate mines back in the day and rode in West Virginia( Hell yeah!!). Just looking for a new decent purchase. Sturdy and reliable, something to ride in town an OFF. |
