Well
I found this beneath my front floor mat whilst examining my extensive rust issues there...
I followed it all the way down the frame and to the very rear of the engine, where it was twisted around the frame, touching nothing.
The more I investigate the wiring of this thing, the more fun little surprises I find. Like the other day, what I thought was a failing headlight switch was merely a wire jumping two posts on the switch that had come loose...why it was put there, I have no clue. Or my wipers not working due to the lead to the wiper motor just cut off and dangling under the dash for NO reason. Once connected to juice, they worked fine. I only WISH I would've photographed the rat's nest of wires I yanked out when I removed that hack job stereo install!
So whatever this did at one time, it is obviously not doing it now. What is it, and should I try to correct whatever it used to do or just yank it out? _________________ Percy: '77 sage Westy, 2.0L FI (GD), 091 trans

My guess would be for a CB Radio antenne. Could be for anything though. Don't think there is anything as an accessory that had that. Who knows what or why PO do things. _________________ Why Yes it is a Magic bus!

Well the antenna lead is also dangling under the dash, so that's definitely not what that is. So when I install a stereo and want to listen to Lady Gaga or "I'm on a Boat" or something, I'll be set!
Yeah man, PO should've never gotten his hands on a VW...seems like everybody on here has a story about him jimmy-rigging their Bus! _________________ Percy: '77 sage Westy, 2.0L FI (GD), 091 trans

Yeah dude, that is an antenna for a CB radio. Must have went from the CB up front to the antenna somewhere in the back.
Cut it and toss it. no better yet, recycle it. _________________ Proud Caretaker Of:

I was already thinking of ways I could reuse it. _________________ Percy: '77 sage Westy, 2.0L FI (GD), 091 trans

it looks like an old RG8 connector for antenna wire typically used in Citizen's Band or Amateur radio (HAM radio). Toss it. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |
